Advantages: Quality album - vastly great tracks Disadvantages: Some may not understand this bands fine charm
...original and all the more fun to listen to. You will be left wanting more after this album comes to an end as it is just so enjoyable! I think you really have to listen to the album in its entirety to fully appreciate this masterpiece as to take a track out singularly and listen to it on its own would be an injustice to the band and the hard work that they have obviously put in to making this album flow. Obviously all the tracks are good in their own right and every single one of these tracks could easily be a number 1, but I feel that as an album is where they all truly shine.
Flogging Molly in 'Within A Mile From Home' have created a perfect album that you can easily sit there for an hour listening to without doing anything else at the same time as their music alone is enough to keep you fully entertained. There is just so much to gain...

Advantages: Diversity, readiness to take chances and break new ground Disadvantages: Self-indulgent in places, with a marked lack of quality control
...is responsible for the screaming heavy metal of 'Helter Skelter' - their original recording was a marathon which included a 10-minute guitar solo (Led Beateppelin, anyone?) - and the riff-driven 'Birthday', heavily influenced by LittleRichard - you can almost hear the echoes of 'GoodGollyMissMolly' on this one.
In my view, John Lennon's songs are nowhere near as good. By this time he had his head in avant-garde territory (I nearly said he had his head in Yoko Ono, but ...) and being a Beatle had become a chore.
It shows. 'Glass Onion' is little more than an in-joke with references to Paul really being the Walrus he sang about in 'I Am The Walrus' (c'mon, John, how many listeners really care'). 'I'm So Tired' is a dirge about boredom - and the spirit of boredom proved infectious, as it's hardly riveting listening. Despite the ugly cracked...

Advantages: Good album, and welcome return from one of the big 70s names Disadvantages: A little short, with some slightly below-par tracks
...in Paradise' is more ethereal, softer in sound, reminiscent of 'Telephone Line', especially with those sci-fi space sound effects. Nice but a little bland.
'State of Mind' really rocks out. I've always loved ELO this way, and this one subconsciously tips its hat to 1970 when Jeff joined The Move, the group which ultimately evolved into ELO. A little touch of the guitar riff which fuelled The Move's first track on which he ever played, the Top 10 hit 'Brontosaurus' reappears, and a chord sequence which seems to ape 'GoodGollyMissMolly' somewhat. But Jeff always knew how to plunder the rock classics and create something of his own in the process, and this is no exception.
'Just For Love' floats along like a dream. Pleasant, but like 'Moment', none too memorable.
'Stranger on a Quiet Street' is better. Another slow introspective song...
