...On June 17th 1967 Liberty Records placed an advert in the New Musical Express paper for talent; it wanted artists, composers or singer-musicians to form a new group.
In a rural village called Owmby-by-Spital in Lincolnshire, a young teenager named Bernie Taupin had written some poems & with a little persuasion from his mother, he sent them to Liberty records.
Meanwhile in Pinner, North London, another young lad called Reginald Kenneth Dwight (a.k.a. Elton John) submitted details of himself to Liberty & received a request to do an audition.
Around this time Elton John had played keyboards for a band called Bluesology who amongst others had backed Long John Baldry. Elton had never been the lead singer just the keyboard player & didn't have many songs available to perform on his own. At the audition he was asked to sing three songs...

...under-rated, bands of the 90’s. In John Rzeznik. The Goo’s (as they’re known to their fans), have a front man that is as professional as they come, whilst going through depression and divorce over the past few years, he has always remained committed to his professional career and never forgot his band mates nor his fans, and continually produces the goods. One of the stable acts signed to Warner Bros Records, the Goo Goo Dolls released an album in 1995 titled ‘A Boy Named Goo’, an album that was to lay the platform for the career that were to follow.

The good thing about the band, is there eagerness to share the spotlight. Whilst it’s all about Johnny when it comes to song writing, the singing duties are split between Rzeznik and bass player Robby Takac, someone who adds a different take to their music...

Advantages: Some very good solid, catchy tracks, good mix of fast and slow paced tracks Disadvantages: None really
..., as they were nominated for a number of different Grammy awards in the year 2000, however they weren't successful in winning any, losing out to Santana instead. Though they did appear during the ceremony, singing with Elton John (the song 'Philadelphia Freedom') and they also performed a short medley combining a few old Motown hits, before going on to sing 'Show Me The Meaning'.
This album is one of my favourite albums generally speaking, not just BSB wise but in general and I will admit that a good deal of that is because it brings back memories of the late 90s and of being a fan at that time, of the success they had, all the shows they performed on etc. but all the same, I don't feel that I'm being overly biased about the quality of this album as I know that it was an album I listened to an awful lot in my mid teens (I was 16 when it came out...
