.... He was the buzz name for any artist looking for a cool remix joining the ranks of fellow American DJs such as Todd Terry, Roger Sanchez and Erick Morillo.
The biggest challenge facing Armand Van Helden for this mix cd was not capturing the NY vibe but it was getting the clearance for the tracks. For DJs this can be such a pain, having to get legal permission to use an artists work on the cd, but it seems to have worked just fine as he's pulled out some of the big guns for this mix.
Armand Van Helden gets his mix off to a start by taking time out at the beginning to talk to the listener, a bit unusual. But over a funky electro track he talks in his husky New York accent about what exactly the cd is about. It's only brief but it's great see what he was thinking for this mix. Advantages: Moments of brilliance, original inventive sound. Disadvantages: Extremely unaccessible for a casual listener
...beneath the houses of parliament with hands clasped over his ears at the workings of the world. The Eraser speaks loud and clear with a vicious call for action against global warming, nucleur disarmament and even the notorious David Kelly incident.
Without sounding like a snotty rebel on a payback mission, Yorke deflects his fears to the listener over the course of nine wishful songs which only the most morbidly curious could even think about leaving on repeat. It should be the most depressing album Yorke has ever penned. But for some reason, it's strangely uplifting. Hypnotic, perhaps.

...This mammoth 3-CD spread taken from their 2000 show at the Roseland Ballroom NY shows what Dream Theater can really do live, given the time.
The first half of the performance is dedicated to a full reproduction of one of fans most loved albums, Scenes From a Memory. Each of the songs is given a definitive playthrough, with the bandmembers showing throughout why they're so highly regarded as musicians. A new addition to the set is a slow, soulful intro to 'Through Her Eyes', where guest singer Theresa Thomason matches her powerful gospel wail with some soft, melodic soloing from Petrucci.
The rest of the set is a real treat for fans of the band, as they journey through some well loved classics, and a few surprises. Fan favourite 'The Mirror' sounds heavier than ever, while the epic 'Learning to Live' really gives the original...
