...1995's One Hot Minute shows the Chili's in a bit of a transition phase. The band's guitarist John Frusciante had quit the band after the monumental success of 1991's Blood Sugar Sex Magik, and for a few years, the Chili's sort of drifted around. They went through a few new guitarists, but none of them were really up to the job. However, the band ended up recruiting the Jane's Addiction guitarist and general goth weirdo Dave Navarro, who is actually rather brilliant at the guitar. And off they rolled, to produce a new album. Blood Sugar Sex Magik was a 17 song, 70 minute, punk-funk epic. One Hot Minute, although at times it appeared to be, was not the same. At 13 songs and a little over an hour, with more punk than funk....and couple of love songs!!.....it seemed the band had taken on a new direction. As usual, the band kicked off... Read review

Advantages: Some great, inventive songs

As soon as I heard Dave was putting out a solo album (Or rather HAD put out, I was being a bit slow) my curiosity instantly peaked and I chucked a couple of the song names into audiogalaxy. Advantages: DMX's RUFF RYDERS ANTHEM / superb lyrics, amazing DARK production, gritty flow - BITES!
Disadvantages: DMX's lyrics can be X-plicit and frightening for young children - SO WATCH OUT, GRRR!

DMX may sound violent but he delivers his lyrics with creative and excellent flow, adding street poetry in parts of his verses. To date, RUFF RYDERS' ANTHEM is perhaps among the most popular and best known track to fans who like DMX. One thing that made RUFF RYDERS' ANTHEM so popular was the catchy hook and people screaming '....WHAT!....' repetitively after DMX spits each line of his verse.
