Advantages: It's the best Whitesnake album in 20 years! Disadvantages: It might be their last!
...was still a very very good album, but sadly nothing since has been worthy of the Whitesnake name. Until now that is.... This album straddles the old and the new(er) versions of the band and picks from the best of both worlds. The current band has something that was missing from the late 80's and 90's band line-ups - and that something is 'soul'. This band has a feel for the blues that previous guitarists including the widdly widdly king Steve Vai, ... ...a couple of very good ballads, in the style that only David Coverdale can do.... and that voice... oh yeah, he may be well in his mid 50's but that voice is still in very fine fettle indeed. Sounding more mature, as it should do, perhaps a wee bit deeper and more resonant than the early years, there must be a good few years left in this beast yet! All I can say is, if you're at all a fan - buy it, you won't be disappointed!
For newcomers to Whitesnake - 30 years in the business now, playing solid bluesy rock in the early days, more commercial MTV friendly fare in the late 80's and 90's, and now, well now we're getting a bit of both really. And a fine mix it is too!
As a very long time fan of the 'snakes I've been both amazed and disappointed over the years in pretty much equal measure when it comes to the albums... I am, like many of the 'older' fans, very much into the earlier bluesier version of the band, and while '1987' was a different kettle of fish from previous, it was still a very very good album, but sadly nothing since has been worthy of the Whitesnake name. Until now that is.... This album straddles the old and the new(er) versions of the band and picks from the best of both worlds. The current band has something that was missing from the late 80's and 90's band line-ups - and that something is 'soul'. This band has a feel for the blues that previous guitarists including the widdly widdly king Steve Vai, and Ade Vandenberg never could dream of attaining. The album itself is heavier in some respects than anything they've done before... so turn it up when you play it! But there are also a couple of very good ballads, in the style that only David Coverdale can do.... and that voice... oh yeah, he may be well in his mid 50's but that voice is still in very fine fettle indeed. Sounding more mature, as it should do, perhaps a wee bit deeper and more resonant than the early years, there must be a good few years left in this beast yet! All I can say is, if you're at all a fan - buy it, you won't be disappointed!

Album Notes
Initial pressings of GOOD TO BE BAD included a bonus disc containing 7 live tracks and a video. Recording information: Clear Lake Audio, LA. Issued more than a decade after Whitesnake's previous studio outing, 2008's GOOD TO BE BAD finds frontman David Coverdale leading a band of new hard-rock recruits. Easily one of the heaviest albums recorded by the blooze-leaning British act, the album benefits from Coverdale's well-weathered vocals and the twin guitar work of Doug Aldrich (Dio) and Reb Beach (Winger, Dokken), as evinced on the fierce opener, "Best Years."

Kerrang (Magazine) (p.50) - "[T]his thing breathes fire all the way. Adding the spirit of their blues-inspired origins to the hormonal pyrotechnics of their commercial peak..."
