Hello Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
Review of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road [Remastered] - Elton John by  rsmith

Advantages: Classic tunes
Disadvantages: Some mysogyny, however it's spelt!

...I think this is Elton’s best album, even though it was originally a double, there are very few songs that sound like filler. It’s very 70s, with glam (“Bennie & the Jets” ); cod-reggae (“Jamaica jerk off”); and songs which were probably quite influential in their way - like The Rubettes (“Your sister can’t twist but she can rock n roll”) and many of the uptempo numbers sound like Meatloaf. There are many musical styles on here. The start of “Saturday night’s all right for fighting” could be The Who (they later recorded their own version of it for the “Two rooms” tribute). There’s a good proportion of ballads, too - “I’ve seen that movie too”, “Roy Rogers” “Harmony”, and of course the classics “Candle in the wind” and “Goodbye yellow brick road”. The album starts with the marathon “Funeral for a friend / Love lies bleeding” (at over... Read review

Goodbye Girls
Review of Goodbye - Spice Girls by  bennyong

Advantages: Their First Release in Years
Disadvantages: 4 Free Useless Postcards

...Greetings fellow members of ciao! I found this topic in the albums category. It is a mistake by Ciao to have listed this as an album because it is just another single from the Spice Girls. To those of you who are unaware or have forgotten who they are, well, here is a quick recap. This was a 5 girl band which took the world by storm with the release of their first single Wannabe in 1996. It was an immediate hit and became no 1 in lots of countries. A no 1 album was soon to follow with further releases of hit singles such as 2 Become 1, Say you’ll Be There, Mama and Who Do You Think You Are?. I hope it is enough to recall your memory. Back to the CD review. The single Goodbye was shortly released after the departure of one of the Fab 5 which was Geri Halliwell or better known as Ginger Spice by the fans. Many thought... Nice to see you Yellow Brick Road
Review of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road [Remastered] - Elton John by  Merv

Advantages: Great music, wonderful value, excellent lyrics
Disadvantages: None whatsoever

...I’m currently in the process of collecting all my favourite vinyl albums on CD and finding some real bargains in the process. My latest acquisition at a mere £4.99 from Our Price is Elton John’s classic double album ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’. I can vividly remember buying the original version on a day trip to London, just before Christmas in 1973. I went with some of my friends on the train, no mean feat in those days from the Shropshire backwaters and bought it from what I believe to be Virgin’s first music shop in Oxford Street. Nearly thirty years ago – doesn’t time fly! And yet the music and the memories are as fresh as ever. Goodbye Yellowbrick Road was the peak of Elton's fabulous ride through the 70s. The album is as enchanting and nostalgic as ‘The Wizard of Oz’ from... Read review
