embodiment of what many think of as the national character. Stoic, weathered, and hard-working, Lightfoot practices a husky brand of folk music that's as timeless as the Canadian landscape that seems to loom above his most memorable melodies. This overdue four-disc retrospective stretches all the way back to 1962, when the Ontario-born performer tried to make it in Nashville, up to 1998; 16 previously unreleased tracks and another 17 previously available only on vinyl add meat to its frame. Yes, the familiar tunes are here--"For Lovin' Me" (a hit for both Peter, Paul&Mary and Ian&Sylvia), "Early Morning Rain", "If You Could Read My Mind", "Sundown", "Carefree Highway", and the oft-parodied but truly evocative "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald". ButSongbook, like the artist it commemorates, isn't defined by radio staples. It's about the splendid expanse that is the decades-long career of a true musical workhorse.--Steven Stolder
Album Notes: SONGBOOK also contains a 64-page booklet.

...Gordon Duncan (Highland bagpipe, chanter, whistles) with Neil Fergusson (bouzouki), Tony McManus (guitar), Ewan Vernal (bass) and John Scullion (snare drum). Produced by Tony McManus.
Well what can i say, if you haven't heard this late great legend play then i do recommend buying this cd. I can honestly say that he was one of the best bagpipers in the world, and it was a huge shock when he passed away. His playing in this cd is phenomenal, from the traditional march, straspheys and reels, to his own unique compositions, one of which is the title name of this album.
Track listing
2/4 Marches - The marches are Glengarry Highland Gathering, Bonnie Ann, and Renfrewshire Militia. Gordon plays these 2/4's with great fingering technique.

Advantages: Good Clean fun, with deep meaning lyrics Disadvantages: None
...Barenaked Ladies got its start in 1988, when childhood friends Steven Page (vocals/guitar) and Ed Robertson (guitar) discovered they enjoyed singing together at summer camp. The idea for the band name (which the two were forced to defend repeatedly in the group's early years) came to them during a giggling fit at a Bob Dylan concert. After several months spent performing as opening act for a traveling comedy troupe, the duo recruited high school classmates (and brothers) Jim Creeggan (bass) and Andrew Creeggan (keyboards), and the foursome recorded a demo tape, titled Barenaked Lunch. A performance at the annual Buskers Festival in Waterloo, Ontario, led to an encounter with like-minded drummer Tyler Stewart, and the group was complete.
Gordon, the band's first album proved a smash in Canada, but failed to generate much excitement...

...= HOW I FIRST HEARD ABOUT GORDON MOTE =
Every week, I download the podcast of Michael Card's 'In the Studio' Christian radio programme, and listen to it on my iPod while driving to and from work. Most week's he has guests talking about what they are doing, and last October, his studio guest was Gordon Mote. As Gordon Mote played one of the songs from his new album, my eyes were filled with tears, so powerful and moving were the words of 'Wake Up Dancin'', and so exquisitely simple the music. You could tell from the response of the presenters that I wasn't the only affected in this way. On getting home, I bought the album on iTunes, and most of the songs now feature very highly in my most played songs list.
= WHO IS GORDON MOTE? =
Gordon Mote has been blind from birth, but at the age of three stunned his family...
