Gorgeous - 808 State

Advantages: good range & style of music mix, Pacific 202 - unforgettable!!
Disadvantages: only 8 tracks, finishes all too soon, 808 state hard to find these days

...Boy does this take me back!! For those old enough to remember the purple haze of the late 80s and the early beginnings of dance & house I'm sure you'll remember a bunch of Manchester geezers calling themselves 808state. I'd completely forgot about 808 after all these years until I went clubbing a few nights ago and the DJ played a medlee of 808 stuff. And then the memories came flooding back. Even though they never really kept the mommentum going through the 90s they did produce some really excellent dance mixes that have a good hypnotic beat that will get you in the mood at the drop of a hat. for me, 808:90 is their most accomplished album from 1989. Advantages: Its the most summery album of the year yet!
Disadvantages: People will be funny about it cos she was a Spice Girl!

...'ll see me in time, stranger of mine." This is ridiculously upbeat… it's the vocals and the violins. Possibly one of the best songs on the album… I love the typical pop lyric 'stop' and then the music does. Fantastic tune, All 80's beats and a sexual spoken bit "I'm physically, dramatically, undeniably attracted to you…do ya hear?" hmmm, not sure of this one. "Sweet Pleasure" feels like it has somewhere to go that it never quite gets too. 'Tempo of your walk' is cool, and I like the dirtiness and the vocoder makes a change… it lacks something! Title track 'LA State Of Mind' is very kitsch… hmmm what do you think its about????? Yes LA hahaha! It even starts with LA street noise… sort of! Advantages: The first live U.S. compact disc
Disadvantages: Too short

...Here is another live compact disc by London`s own Alien Sex Fiend. This recording took place in 1992 during the band`s U.S. tour. Prior to this, A.S.F. played in the United States Of America in 1984 and 1989. A very limited amount of these compact discs originally came with it`s own Fiendish Zillion dollar bill, however the bill is limited edition, and there weren't too many issued. I also know from experience that many music stores in the States removed the note and it was sold seperately. This is another one of my favorite recordings that I play frequently. The booklet leaves me to wonder if the band, were in need of some cash as the booklet is really cheap looking. Usually, I wouldn't judge the quality of an album by it's cover, but it's the first thing you notice when you see the cd in the store. It's quite uninspiring... Read review
