Gorillaz is the Album by the band of the same name, Gorillaz. Towards the end of 2000 there was a lot of hype about the release of the album, as the lead singer was Damon Albarn of blur. But they were not to go by their own names, the band were to go by the name s of 2D, Noodle, Murdoc and Russel.

2001 came and I was looking forward to the release of GORILLAZ by the Gorillaz, and I ordered it in advance, so as to get it on the day of release. Then out came the hit single “Clint Eastwood”, what a great track it was as well, excellent lyrics, an people who like all types of music liked it! But after loads of airplay, the song got very repetitive, and a re-mix version was used. It then started to get annoying.

Finally the CD was released and what a disappointment it was! The only track that anyone really liked was that of “Clint Eastwood”, well from what my mates and me can tell anyway!

The CD consists of 15 tracks, plus a hidden track of the over used re-mix of “Clint Eastwood”, and not one of them is to my liking! When you buy a CD, and you like the single previously released, you normally expect the rest of the music to be along the lines as that track. But it wasn’t, that was the only track like it, and all of the others are alike each other, and of a really strange tune! Surely it would make sense to release a different track along the same lines as the majority of the album. I think that they have just released the track that will get them sales, rather than gathering a true fan base.

It would be wrong for me to comment on all of their tracks, as I have never listened to the album all the way through, as it gets so depressing! Here is the track listing and a comment on the two singles “Clint Eastwood” and “19-2000”.

5. Clint Eastwood – Great single, and great tune, but was over played on the radio. It is unlike the rest of the album!

11. 19-2000 – The second single that was released from the album. It starts off ok, and has a good video, but gets depressing. It is good to listen to if you want to see if you like their style of music.

As they are an animated band it is hard to comment on their appearance, but the art is easy to comment on. Just brilliant, the best part of the band in my opinion! It must have taken ages to produce both of the videos so far, and compared to other animated videos these are two of the best, if not the best.

I would personally not recommend this album to any fan of Blur, as although it is the same lead singer, there are no comparisons, and it may even make you dis-like blur a little! But if you are considering buying it, it would be worth listening to 19-2000 first, or downloading a couple of tracks on MP3 first!
