The first thing that hits you about this album is how inventive it is. Just from the design on the front and the art work in the inlay, you can see that here is an artist who is truly original. The music is exactly the same.
From the very first beat in 'Re-Hash' to the ending bar of '19-2000 (Soulchild Remix)' the listener is taken on a musical rollercoaster. This album is nothing grand, no groundbreaking club anthems or stadium filling riffs. But what it does offer is a strange complexity throughout. The tracks are like no other, a strange mix of indi, electronica and even hip hop. It's well worth a listen, whatever genre it falls under!
The rhythms are fantastic. A real underground sense of beat is conveyed in every track, whilst at the same time staying away from the more orthodox drum beats of rock and dance.
This album doesn't quite compare to their latest release, DEMON DAYS, but it is a great achievement. For the broader minded, this is well worth a listen. The slightly out of key feel to some of the tracks may not be to everyones liking, but for those who are willing to give new music a go, GORILLAZ shouldn't fail to impress.

Could have done with a lot more detail ie track by track run down. I remember when this first came out and remember thinking that this was a bit different. good album
