I am trying to like it but............ Advantages: Heartfelt Disadvantages: Strange vocals Lyrically great, and there are some songs here that I would probably love if I could listen to them more, but sadly I find Michelle's voice incredibly irritating, it has a nasal quality to it that is just not pleasant at all. I keep trying to listen again but am finding it very hard, not only because of the vocals but there is very little memorable here - normally with a gospel album there will be something that will reach me, or touch me, or make ... ...a bit strange and nothing gets to me. I really wish I could like Michelle's albums more becuase she is sharing her love of God, and that is a wonderful thing. On the plus point, vocally and melody wise, Michelle is different. I have been asked to give a little bit more information on Michelle, which I apologise for not doing in my first review - this is my first time, I am learning! blind boyos Advantages: great songs Disadvantages: none I am not a religious man (far from it) and am no follower of gospel music but having come across the blid boys of alabamas Spirit of the Century album I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one. THere is no doubt that this is another fine album full of wonderful vocals. As with Spirit of the century the blind boys have been teamed up with another great set of backing musicians, although I must admit i do miss Danny Thompsons excellent bass playing ... ...There is a good range of songs on this album which show up the beauty of the singing and playing. Amy Grant - Home for Christmas Advantages: Some lovely new songs and new versions of classics Disadvantages: Hard to sing along as Amy's vocal range is quite low! This is one of my all time favourite Christmas CD's. I have had this album for a long time and it comes out every year! Yes, there is the usual new versions of old songs, but the songs that are penned by Amy Grant are wonderful. I have actually been able to gain strength from the words of these songs and have used them in daily readings for myself and other people. Moving but kind of sad too Advantages: Elvis and Gospel work so well together Disadvantages: Hmmmmmmmmm, can't really think of any right now ...goodness knows what dependency in his later years, and you can't help but wonder what would have become of him had he managed to stay true to his godfearing upbringing. He certainly sings like he means it on all of these songs, there is no lack of sincerity, there is a heartfelt wistfulness on many that is unsurpassed, even if the production now seems a bit dated at times - but on the other hand, that also adds to it's appeal. There are a mixed ... ...I knew well. To be honest, it was worth buying the album just for "You'll Never Walk Alone". As a Scouser I have grown up on this song and it never fails to move me, but I have to say that Elvis's version goes beyond any other, it is just full of raw emotional strength and takes my breath away. You can really see Elvis's roots and inspiration in black gospel music with traditional negro spiritual songs like Walk Dem Golden Stairs and Swing Low Sweet ... The best United's live cd Advantages: lively and inspired Disadvantages: you kidding me? of couse there's no disadvantage, it's United, c'mon!! That's the album that made me like Hillsong United. The sound of the young people from one of the most famous churchs is a very exciting worship, with touching lyrics, that make you praise our God, be the song agitated or calm. Most of the songs have well made guitar riffs, that make them more interesting, specially for young people, and the ones who love rock.
