Advantages: Too many to list - see the review! Disadvantages: Could cause the urge to spend money, lots of money!
...First thing to say about this is that the music is not 'folk'! Its out and out delta blues! The explanation for the album title is in the sleeve notes and its to do with definitions at the time and trying to expand Waters' appeal.
The album was recorded nearly 45 years ago - but again don't let that put you off. The actual recording quality is astounding - more later. The music shows off what a stuning vocal and guitar legend Waters really is - more later.
This album is available in a variety of formats - this version is the CD (which is what I have) but it is also available as a SACD, Vinyl record and DVD audio. An updated version of MuddyWaters "I gotmyMojoWorking" renamed "Machines Ain't Music" takes us to Mississippi delta blues territory, an ode to how "Disco sure Does Suck" and I am sure that McKinley Morganfield would have approved of this reworking. Not lighter-waving stuff though, this is kind of like Hanoi Rocks, with some saxophone creeping up behind the main riff to complement it. And yes! Handclaps during the guitar solo! Oh, it brings a tear to my eye…
Track #3 – Anyway But Maybe
Perhaps the best intro to a song on this CD… big double bass drum work with matching guitar riff, into a very quick riff, then into a slower one, and finally into the verse which is soft in comparison. “Maybe I’m the kind of a guy that won’t leave you alone,” croons Ginger, going on into a chorus about him lusting after a lady. “All that I want is your kiss on my kiss...
