I first discovered Jeff Buckley about two years ago whilst watching an interview with Muse on MTV2. Matt Bellamy was explaining how he was moved to 'sing like a woman' after listening to Buckley. The video for 'Grace' was played and i immediately got to tracking down the album!
The fact that Buckley can hit every note required to satisfy the mood of the song suggests that this unique artist is one of a kind. The lyrics are dramatic and very deep "theres the moon asking to stay, long enough for the clouds to fly me away..."
Alternative/indie would loosley describe this genre but it is a masterpiece in its own right. Buckley's haunting voice works its way around the gentle guitar riffs and chords to whip up exactly the passion entailed in each song.
Mojo Pin begins the album, starting with his soothing voice comforting the listener...its one of those songs that gradually builds up to a grand climax, tke note of the drumming - subtle yet effective.
Grace! My all time favourite song on this album and that anyway of Buckley as described above, a lively song encompassing fairytale lyrics and haunting moods.
Last Goodbye, a good typical 'indies' song.Yep it rocks and is even better live if u get the chance to hear the 'Mystery White Boy' album.
'Lilac Wine'...yes a classic in its own right! And the versitility of his voice is very evident in this sing. A gentle ballad to send you to sleep!
So real is my second favourite on this album, again he's got this whole atmospheric haunting thing going on and really has to be heard to be appreciated! Balancing gentle ballad with satisfying rock in the same song is something that Buckley has definitly got down to fine art.
The religious side to jeff becomes known with Hallelujah. A beautiful song done justice by his unique talents.
Lover U Should have Come Over starts a little unexpected with an unusual instrumental, but the song unfolds into something i could imagine coldplay comin out with! A lovely song filled with wisdom! "Maybe im too young, to stop good love from going wrong"
Corpus Christi Carol may not appeal to everyone, erm it sounds very medieval and traditional, what else can i say!
Eternal Life?? Well this ROCKS!A nice lift from the previous song, starts with guitar getting louder followed by the drums bound to get your head banging.
Dream Brother is very similar to Mojo Pin at the outset, with an almost indian feel with the blend string instruments and winding vocals.
To be honest I cant really describe these songs and give them full justice. It has to be experienced!! I give you Jeff Buckley's 'Grace', a musical legend!!!!
