Jeff Buckley.....wow. I am grateful to HMV and for the day I heard and brought Jeff Buckley's Grace. After a long days work during the busy stressful christmas period a colleague put Grace on....oh how it revived me! I heard it a second time and then had to buy it and now I'm hooked. He has become my number one all time favourite artist.
Jeff Buckley - Grace. Opening with soft strumming and gentle ooooing's from Jeff sending tingles all over your body in eager anticipation of 51 minutes of soul restoring music.
The rhythmic beats, guitar strums, violins glide you through an emotional journey of awe inspiring music. From 'Last goodbye' a heart renching song that makes me laugh, cry and smile all in 5 minutes to 'Lilac wine' which is just simply 100% soothing to your mind, body and soul.
Jeff's empowering voice makes you want to sing his delicious lyrics with all your heart.
' she tied me to a kitchen chair she broke your throne and cut off your hair and from your lips she drew the hal-le-lu-jah' (Hallelujah, track 6)
Every track on the album is wonderful and all evoke deep rooted feelings and thoughts. 'Lover', you can really feel Jeff's passion in this song, every note is sung with feeling. 'Corpus Christi Carol' with this song you can really appreciate Jeff's vocal range and control it's a pure delight. The album ends on 'Dream Brother' which also happens to be the first song they ever wrote together and it leaves you craving for more.
And so the perfect album to cure that craving is ' Jeff Buckley - Live A L' Olympia'. This live album taken from his tour in France allows you a better insight into Jeff himself. Hearing him speak and laugh with the audience is wonderful. You begin to understand that this was still a very new experience to the band, playing to a huge audience, and he is truely taken back by the whole experience and it's lovely to almost feel a part of that just by listening to the album.
There are also a few songs off what was to be his second album ('My Sweetheart the Drunk') such as 'That's all I ask' and 'what will you say' both gorgeous songs and completely different. I keep talking in the past tence and this is because unfortunately Jeff Buckley died suddenly whilst working on his second album, I'm not going to tell you how he died because it's much better to read his mini biography in the sleeve of this album 'Live A L' Olympia'.
So I urge all of you to buy Grace as your introduction to the most gentle, passionate, fun, inspiring singer I have ever had the fortune to listen to.
You can pick up the album in most music stores or on ebay for under £7 which in all respects is a complete bargain.

Review of Grace - Jeff Buckley
Advantages: Extreme beauty, grace, charm. Lovingly crafted music, with a well-deserved cult following of those with enlightened souls. Disadvantages: A moment or two when he tries to be a bit of a rock god, and doesn't come off too well.
