The film works really well as a showcase of these songs. It has no other purpose, because, let's face it, music is where Prince's talent lies, not acting. But boy, is this music good!
This is one of my favourite Prince albums, mainly because it's just so uplifting. You put the disc in the player, hit play, and you smile. It's that kind of album.
There is a really good ratio of ballads to upbeats, loads of guest appearances (making this album increadibly diverse), and none of it is too cheesy (remarkable for the era!).
I genuinely cannot recommend one track above any other as being the "stand-out track", but "Thieves in the Temple" is truly beautiful, and "New Power Generation" will get you up dancing.
Oh, and if you are a Prince fan, give the movie a try too. It's nice to have a visual companion for Graffiti Bridge - it only enhances its greatness.

(drums, background vocals); The Steeles, The New Power Generation, Garry Shider, Steve Boyd, William Payne, Belita Woods, Tracey Lewis, Mike Harris, Pat Lewis, Sandra Dance, Jerome Benton, Jana Anderson (background vocals); T.C. Ellis, Robin Power, The Time. Engineers include: Eddie Garcia, Mark Platl, Coke Johnson. Recorded at Paisley Park, Minnesota and Mad Hatters, Los Angeles, California. It's easy to dismiss this album as an unfocused mess--and many have. On GRAFFITI BRIDGE, Prince writes songs for colleagues to play; nine of the 17 cuts feature other artists such as The Time, Mavis Staples, Tevin Campbell and George Clinton. And it is indeed messy. But the record's merits must be acknowledged too. At the top of this list is the song "Joy in Repetition," a slight narrative idea clung to, wrapped in dreamy bluesiness, and beautifully delivered. Also notable is "We Can Funk." Many have tried to reclaim George Clinton's P-Funk contributions to butt-shaking music, but few have managed it without losing their own identity. Prince pulls it off. Even some of Prince's missteps can be classified as brilliant mistakes, beautiful failures. The overtly Christian "Elephants and Flowers" is as preposterously rich and frothy as its title. "Thieves in the Temple's" sonic frou-frou has earned it fans, despite its greasy aftertaste. GRAFFITI BRIDGE is a funk experiment from a man who never rests on his laurels.
