Advantages: very funny Disadvantages: I'd like to see an actual docu about it
If you are in any way a fan of GramParsons, this movie is a must-see. Although it isn't 100% factual, it is based on a story that's outcome is something you would see in a movie.
Story:
GramParsons was the most promising and influential artist of the late 60's and early 70's; playing in such bands as The International Submarine Band, Flying Burrito Brothers, and the Byrds. Although a great musician, like many, he was an avid drug user. He and his friends would go to the Joshua Tree Monument and have parties and participate in drug use. So naturally, that's where he told his friend Phil Kaufman he wanted his ashes scattered. This is where the movie picks up. With Johnny Knoxville playing Phil Kaufman, the movie depicts the events that supposedly took place after Parson's death.
My Thoughts:
It is truly a funny movie, as ...
Advantages: A great tribute. Stellar line-up. Benefits a worthy cause. Disadvantages: Some of the fashons are now very dated!
These two DVDs comprise a tribute to Freddie Mercury, who died in 1991 after succumbing to AIDS. All the artists involved gave their time for free - and those included reads like a Who's Who of British rock music, in addition to artists from overseas such as Metallica and Liza Minelli.
There is an array of "extras" on the 2 DVDs, including rehearsal footage for each act (press enter when you see the "i" box at the corner of your screen), a documentary on the great Freddie Mercury and press photos from the event itself.
---Why should I bother listening to something that is over 10 years old?----
Because Queen were a seminal rock group; because buying the video will help AIDS charities fight the disease; because it is a moving and uplifting event; because the atmosphere is captured brilliantly in the film; because it contains ...
Advantages: will bring back lots of memories, its probably the only time you will see these clebs all together Disadvantages: the first half is missing!!
For those of you who remember when freddie died and watched this memorial on t.v. you may be a little disappointed. The original concert was in two halves, the first half was various groups (including metallica, def leopard and extreme) doing a short set each in honor of Freddie Mercury and in support of the charity. The second half was some members of various bands taking their turns to perform queens greatest hits alongside the remaining members of Queen. Well this dvd is only the second half of this concert. All in all it's great veiwing and i challenge anyone who liked Queen's music not to end up humming or even singing along, the perfomances (put together in quite a short space of time) are good (mostly), and its a unique experience to see some of the most unlikely pairings the music world has seen. However I still can't help ...
