When The Streets first came out I wasn't really that interested, but then I heard one of the tracks from this album on the radio. I suppose it was a turning point for me because I bought the album straight away. Basically, it is 11 tracks that tell a story. They are based around Mike, his girlfriend Simone and his mates. The beauty of this album is that everybody can relate to at least one of the songs. When listening to it, you get a real feeling of the emotion and thought put into each track and that it's all happening in front of you. I laughed at the opening song 'It was supposed to be easy' because I have bad days where I've not had any luck at all and I find it quite ironic.
The thing I like most about this album is the variety of music. 'Dry your eyes' for instance is a slow song with a simple beat, some strings and the most emotional lyrics. He's getting dumped by his girlfriend and he's trying everything to change her mind. This song really gave me goosebumps when I first heard it as like many lads out there, I could relate to the pain he was going through and the desperation to stop it from happening. However, it's not all doom and gloom!
There are a few very catchy songs which you'll find yourself humming or singing to throughout the day. A good example is the funny and well written 'Get out of my house' which is his girlfriend basically nagging at him and 'Could well be in'. A nice song about how he first met Simone and their first date. Also 'Fit but you know it' which is in the charts at the moment and has regular air play on the radio.
All in all, this is a quality album which has something for everyone. Since buying it about a month ago, I haven't had a day where I've not listened to at least one of the songs. It does contain quite a bit of swearing so it may not be suitable for younger ears. It is an essential part of my cd collection now and I highly recommend you add it to yours. You will not be disappointed.
