...I never got to see The GratefulDead play live. I've read lots of books and I've listened to lots of albums and this, for me, is the closest I've ever come to feeling that I'm there.
The Dead are a difficult band to get into. Their studio albums are all over the place, sometimes they can't even be bothered to go to the studio at all and set off on the road instead. They progressed from psychedelic to country to progressive to aor and finally wound up with a bit of everything.
Then there are the live albums, probably over of a hundred of them by now.
So where to start?
Well, how about at the Meadowlands Arena in October 1989. This double CD captures the band at probably their most commercially successful. They had their only big hit in 1987 with 'Touch of Grey' (not on here!) and were playing arenas after that (in the sixties...
