Advantages: Easy to listen to Songs Disadvantages: CD2 a bit poor

Advantages: Better than1st album.Music is indie in feel moving away from pop.Vocally lovely.Lyrically clever. Disadvantages: Bit samish after a while.Some slumps in the album.

The hippie indie feel on this album really is a good way forward but it's not convincing through this album, especially on collaborations with Bernard Butler (Suede) in the song 'Sugarcoated'.
Lyrically her songs are stronger than you would expect if you just judged her on her sickly pop album 'Whatever'. I suppose that she is trying to live up to the greatness of some of her idols like Elvis Costello. Without wanting to sound cruel, as in many ways I do like her, she isnt anywhere near that good.
The album sags at some points and I dont think it really recovers at times. The high points of this album, musically, lyrically and vocally are 'You Could Make A Killing', 'Long Shot' and 'You're With Stupid Now'.
Summary: Although there are some weak points,this album is still pretty good&better than her1st! ...

When it was first released, the only way you could have bought this album was through Aimee Mann's own website. Now, thanks in no small measure to the success of the film Magnolia, coupled with Mann's superb Oscar nominated song, 'Save Me', it's getting the kind of widespread release it deserves.
If ever there was a cloud with a silver lining, it was Universal's decision to reject this album on the grounds that it saw no 'radio friendly' singles on it. Having since bought back her songs and released them independently on her own label, she's now in a position to say a big "screw you" to her previous employers. Bachelor No. 2 is filled with the kind of catchy songs and simple, direct lyrics that stick in your head for months on end, and it was no surprise to see it on many a critic's top ten list at the end of 2000.
