Advantages: Great songs - wonderful, popular tunes Disadvantages: A few songs aren't as good as the others
.... Mendelssohn: Violin Concerto in E minor - third movement (05:43)
This is played by the RoyalLiverpoolPhilharmonicOrchestra with Maria Bachmann playing the main violin part. It starts with a link section joining the second movement to the third, during this section it speeds up and modulates, in preparation for the main part of the third movement. Then, after that, comes the main theme that is present most of the way through the piece, but with varying instrumentation and in different keys. This piece is a light hearted, fast piece that is truly amazing. This is also one of the best on the CD.
14. Rachmaninov: Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini - 18th variation (03:10)
This is played by the Philharmonia Orchestra with Evelyn Chen playing the piano. This is one of the most beautiful of Rachmaninov's love themes which is derived from one...

Advantages: Excellent recordings on one CD Disadvantages: Competing with so many other recordings
...These recordings of the Brahms and Sibelius Vioin Concertos are performed by Tasmin Little and the RoyalLiverpoolPhilharmonicOrchestra. As you would expect, the quality is excellent. Tasmin has no difficulties with the technical side of the music, giving a first rate performance.
There is little I can say about the CD. There are a few recordings of these concertos competing for top place, and this one is certainly in the running. However, it might be worth comparing this to the recordings by Kennedy and Maxime Vengerov before parting with your money, but it is really down to a matter of personal preference....

Advantages: A top quality orchestra playing Meat Loaf, great back or foreground music Disadvantages: As predicted, some of the songs aren't full length.
...This CD is just what it claims to be, classic Meaty favourites performed by a full blown orchestra (I didn't know there was a piano in an orchestra, but there is in this one {there may even be a guitar but I can't remember}).
The songs are performed to the highest quality and are instantly recognisable (assuming you know the original of course). This album is full of tracks spanning Bat 1 right up to Welcome to the Neighbourhood, and although epics like "I'd do anything for love" have been cut down to under 6 minutes, you get good value for money.
I bought my copy on ebay for £4, but would have happily paid double now I've heard it.
It'll be great background music for cocktail parties or anything that needs jazzing up, and I particularly enjoy listening to it as I drift to sleep at night......
