Advantages: The fundamentals - Classic Big Band Style Jazz Disadvantages: Sound quality was poor
DukeEllington composed many interesting traditional jazz music suited at that time for big band style. Amongst the popular music he wrote were Mood Indigo, It Don't Mean A Thing, Caravan, Chelsea Bridge and many more. His compositions in my opinion were very radical compared to those of the traditional era which cause some people to dislike it. It applies more tension chords as ever, bringing in modern jazz concepts and adapting them in a traditional context.
He is however one of the legends in the field of jazz and although many do not know him, they have heard of him. Many of his songs are taken today and played in small group bands, trios and quartets and improvised to meet modern expectations.
I personally enjoyed the tracks because I am a jazz fanatic. What I didn't enjoy was the poor recording quality which is probably ...

Advantages: Compact, Rugged, 50 routes, Electronic Compass Disadvantages: Battery life
model (around 12 hours compared to 18 without the compass) but this is bearable and should see you good for one or two long walks although in particularly cold weather you could get caught short by the batteries suddenly deciding they have had enough. A word of warning here though - rechargeable batteries are great BUT they have a curious habit of reporting themselves as nearly empty very. The result is that the eTrex Summit shows the battery warning light after not very long at all - maybe 2 - 3 hours but then continues to operate for a good 7 - 8 hours more before switching off completely. It's a problem I've noticed with rechargeable batteries in general but when you might be relying on the device for navigation it's probably best to stick with Duracells.
It's probably worth mentioning that there are a reasonable number of accessories ...
Advantages: High quality tape that does not suffer from degradation Disadvantages: Hard to get hold of.
higher performance and quality than a standard tape.
It also utilises Sony's Carbonmirror Back coating on the reverse of the tape. This makes sure that quality is not lost with repeated usage as degredation is kept to a minimum.
Sensitivity to light?
Brilliant. Some tapes suffer in quality to the low light performance of the Sony cameras. The "Night Light" function sometimes leads to large graining pictures on the tape. However, the Sony is so good at picking up the low light levels during recording that this problem is all but eliminated.
Overall.
A greattape and a resonable price. Can prove hard to get old of due to their lack of appearance in the shops. ...

Album Notes
THE GREAT SUMMIT: THE MASTER TAKES was originally released as THE COMPLETE LOUIS ARMSTRONG & DUKE ELLINGTON SESSIONS. Personnel: Louis Armstrong (vocals, trumpet); Duke Ellington (piano); Trummy Young (trombone); Barney Bigard (clarinet); Mort Herbert (bass); Danny Barcelona (drums). Producer: Bob Thiele. Reissue producer: Michael Cuscuna. Recorded at RCA Studios, New York, New York on April 3 & 4, 1961. Includes liner notes by Dan Morgenstern. Digitally remastered by Ron McMaster using 24-bit technology. One of the most historic jazz records ever recorded, THE COMPLETE SESSIONS brings together, for the first and only time, the two most influential figures in jazz. Living up to the expectations placed upon such a meeting would, of course, be impossible, but this album is wonderful by any standard. The format is an interesting one in that basically Duke Ellington assumed Billy Kyle's piano chair in the 1961 version of Armstrong's All Stars band. Rather than performing Armstrong's usual repertoire, however, the two giants chose to record a selection of Ellington's best compositions. The resulting album allowed Duke to play some of his most sensitive, relaxed jazz piano on record and gave Satchmo a chance to stretch out on some unfamiliar material, which he does with his usual flair and inventiveness. High points include Armstrong's boisterous solos, amazing improvised scatting and extra lyrics on a high-energy version of "Cottontail" and Ellington's lean, supple lines on "Duke's Place." The seemingly infallible trombonist Trummy Young contributes swinging, bluesy solos throughout and clarinetist Barney Bigard plays with an air of sophistication that well suits the Ellington vibe.
Album Reviews
Q (7/01, p.130) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...Overall, it's a bluesy and upbeat set....but the band has no trouble getting mean and moody for the likes of 'Solitude'. Still wonderful..."
