Duran Duran, well you can’t really mention the 80’s music scene without thinking of at least two or three of the very popular New Romantic’s songs. Duran Duran ruled the early 80’s and there music has also gone on into the 90’s and 00’s. They have lost band members, replaced them and now they original 5 are back together in all there glory I must add!!
I was delighted to hear that Simon Le Bon (Singer), Nick Rhodes(Keyboards), John Taylor (Bass) mmm mmm mmm, Andy Taylor (Lead Guitar) & Roger Taylor (Drums) (oh and all three Taylor’s are not related just a big coincidence) where back together and that they were going on tour again. So to prep me for the concert what album did I pull out? Yes GREATEST!!
This album contains all of DD major hits, spaning from the early 80’s to the late 90’s. It meets all my expectations as a fan and really does make you want to go back to the days where there was big hair, lots of make up and lot more care free ways.
1. Is There Something I Should Know? – Please please tell me now!! This is the opening track
on the album, not one of my favourite tracks but still very upbeat and catchy, you will be singing along even if you don’t know the words.
2. Reflex – Fle Fle Fle Flex! A Classic Duran song, Great base throughout, video is funny a DD at there hight.
3. View To A Kill – Theme Tune from James Bond film also called a view to kill, as the boys in DD are very fond of James Bond it was a dream for them to record this one. Good thing they did because it is another excellent song.
4. Ordinary World – This is a magnificent song, their first major song after Andy & Roger had left. But what a come back, this is a slower song that is about troubles in the world. Very well written.
5. Save A Prayer – This is my Favorite DD song one of there best, it’s a lovely slow love song and makes you want to whisked away by certain Bass player when you watch the video with white sandy beaches – even better when I heard it live this year!!!
6. Rio – One that everyone knows, “her name is Rio” a fast happy sing a long song that everyone loves!
7. Hungry Like The Wolf – This is another fast song, written in the mid 80’s when they were in all there glory. Another Fav with Duranies.
8. Girl on Film – This was DD’s Second song that they ever released. It is a timeless classic that everyone knows, about models & fashion – check out the video it was banned in the 80’s for being to raunchy! Another brilliant dance song.
9. Planet Earth – This is DD’s first release, very popular and probably still one of there best. Another one that will have you singing!
10. Union of The Snake – you’ll be jumping around the room with this fast upbeat tune
11. New Moon on Monday – A slower one now which is very deep and meaning full.
12. Wild Boys – This is my 3rd favourite song, a brilliant song to go with a brilliant video too. (They say Simon nearly had a little accident) Simon’s voice is excellent.
13. Notorious – This was Simon, John’s & Andy’s adventure into a more funky sound. I like it as it is a different sound to the older stuff, however some other people are not too keen on it.
14. I Don’t Want Your Love – This is not a slow love song, but still catchy, not one of my favorites.
15. All She Want’s Is – This song will show you a completely different side to DD, a more rockier side you might say, dirty & raunchy and I Love it
16. Electric Barbarella – The song is a tribute to the cult film Barbarella, from which Duran Duran took there name from a character in the movie. Very good tune, made in late 90’s so heading to the dancey vibe.
17. Serious – I don’t really like this one, but you might like it.
18. Skin Trade – Another kind of raunchy one another favorite, very very good a recent one too.
19.Come Undone – This is my second favorite after Save A Prayer, another slow one, absolutely excellent I really recommend this one, another recent one, it seems to just touch me someone deep inside a one that will make you think.
Well that is that, overall I love the album, and I know what a lot of people think that if you where a young girl of the 80’s your bound to love DD, but I am not. I was born in 1983, I was not a huge fan as I was too busy playing with my little pony’s. But my mother & FATHER where and therefore they have passed down there love for the New Romantic men. You could even say that I like them a lot more than either of my parent’s did.
April just gone I saw them live in Dublin I brought my Boyfriend and converted him too they where absolutely brilliant. They may be getting older but they still have it and by god so does John T
So for anybody that likes a good fun album that you will sing along too this is it, a excellent greatest album and one that is always in my car…

I was around enjoying life in the 80's and although I was never into their music big-time, it'll always bring back great memories! A good review. Mandy.xx

Ahh... those were the days. Whilst I obviously couldn't like them at the time, being a Spandau fan and having a sister who was a Duranie, the competition was too fierce. But secretly I loved them! I will definitely buy this album if only for 'Ordinary World'.
