Popular wisdom dictates that the legendary performer was at his best in the early to mid-1970s, and the incredible string of singles that ran from 1970's "Your Song" through 1977's "Sorry Seems To Be the Hardest Word" remains mightily impressive. But in retrospect, as presented here, 1980s hits such as "I'm Still Standing" and "Sad Songs" add much to an already amazing legacy. Three Disney tunes, the lush "The One", and two fromSongs from the West Coast, which was hailed as a return to those golden days, represent the later years. I am also a bit of a cynic, and see it as a quick and easy way for the record companies to take more money (and urine for that matter!) from music fans, so I was pleasantly suprised that even though some of these songs are older than me, they still sounded refreshing.
... ...has released, with the other being released in the early 90's. He has been around for over 30 years, and his longevity must be respected even if you are not a fan. The tracks on here are in (from what I can gather) chronological order, so the evolution in the sound and standard of the lyrics is really interesting to witness, although I am not going to be predictable and bore you with a track listing.

...his album is Elton JOhn Greatest HIts 1970 - 2002 and some of the songs on this album were released before I was even born but there is not one of the songs that I dont know (although there are a couple that I don't really like).
There are 3 CD's in this case as I have a special edition which contain 2 cd's and a bonus one. The track list is extensive with 17 songs on each of the cd's and 11 on the bonus.

If your a Elton John fan then this 3 cd collection is definetely for you.
Spanning all decades of his career it includes early classics such as 'Your Song' through to his later work such as 'I Want Love' with the third cd throwing up all kind of gems such a duet with the late Luchiano Pavarotti.
The cover sleeve of the collection is also worth a mention with a excellent collection of photo's and a mini biography of Elton's career to date.

This has got to be one of my most treasured possessions at the moment. It has all of Eltons best songs on one great album from 'your song' to 'saturday night's alright for fighting'. A personal favourite of mine is the magnificent 'tiny dancer' cd1 track2. other great songs which feature on the album are: Crocodile Rock, Don't let the sun go down on me, the bitch is back, the one, kiss the bride.... the list is truely endless. ...I bought this album in HMV for £16.99 when it first came out and found it great value for money.
There are 2 discs each with 17 songs on them. Also in a small booklet included with it it gives you quick guide to the songs and what was happening when they were released.
Songs you would expect to find on cd 1 include,
Your song, Rocket man, candle in the wind, don't let the sun go down on me and sorry seems to be the hardest word. there are others though, just too many to list!
On cd2 we find the likes of Nikita, sacrifice, circle of life from the lion king and the more recent i want love along with i feel a classic, can you feel the love tonight?
I found it enjoyanle to listen to at first but found it does drag on a little if you aren't the utimate elton fan.
However comparing it to other greatesthits albums i've listened...
