...AlMartino's biggest claim to fame is that he was the first artist to have a UK No 1 single. When the very first Top 40 was published in November 1952, his "Here In My Heart" sat proudly on top of the pile. It's nice to think that whatever else can happen in your career, they can't take that away from you.
What fun it is to look at that first chart. All those great singers like Mario Lanza (a close friend of Al's), Vera Lynn, Guy Mitchell and…..er, Max Bygraves with the immortal "Cowpuncher's Cantata". But we're getting off track somewhat so back to Mr Martino.

...The other day made me stop and think that I have been around for 4 decades, now that seems a hell of a long time doesn’t it?.Lol. I will now get to the point of my opinion, which is about a wonderful CD that I purchased recently and its called 50 YEARS OF THE GREATESTHIT SINGLES. I grew up with music, from the sixties, seventies and leaving my teenage years in the eighties, these three decades have produced some unforgettable songs. I saw this advertised on CD-WOW.Com that I am sure most of you are members already or at least heard of it. It’s a brilliant site to purchase CD’s, DVD’s and games too, which I highly recommend.

...50 Years of the GreatestHit Singles was purchased for me as a christmas present by my mother two years ago, and to be totally honest i was rather dubious. At heart I am a 60's and 70's heavy rock fan, but there are certain Rock and Roll groups who's music make my spine tingle. I have to say that this double CD was the perfect blend of these age old classics, and came complete with a sprinkling of music that i myself am unlikely to ever listen to, but which will give me something to play which will appeal to the other members of my family, for special gatherings such as christmas and new year. One notable absence was music by the famous Beatles, which is a real shame but the range of music on offer more than makes up for this. I am yet to purchase the platinum edition of this album, but i am hopeful that it will be of an equal caliber...
