First Death In Vegas, then Republica...and now The Bangles!
This is actually one of my sisters albums, but I decided I'd nick it. I think the Bangles are one of the finest 'girl bands' from the eighties. Mind you, in comparison to the likes of Bananarama, I can say that quite easily!
Fronted by Suzanna Hoffs as lead singer for the most part with Annette Zilinskas (later Michael Steele), Vicki and Debbi Peterson adding their voices for choice songs, the band were one of the most successful bands of the eighties, but will be forever remembered for their hit track "Eternal Flame" from 1988. That's a shame, as a lot of their other tracks are so much better.

...was mainly due to personality clashes within the band. In 1991 they made a compilation album "The Bangles Greatest Hits". I purchased this, and it is fantastic, it has all their best songs on it. I would highly recommend it, especially if you are a fan. ...

Advantages: The early tracks are excellant Disadvantages: none
At the time the bangles seemed to be charactorised by "eternal flame" their biggest hit, which is sad since this sloppy ballard is not typical of the excellant singles they produced which had more of a a boppier edge.
Breaking out of the LA Paisley Underground, their 1st 2 singles "Hero takes a fall" and "going down to Liverpool" are excellant 60's pastiches, a style seen later in their cover of "Hazy Shade of Winter". Their next album a different ...

Album Notes
The Bangles: Susanna Hoffs, Vicki Peterson (vocals, guitar); Michael Steele (vocals, bass); Debbi Peterson (vocals, drums). Producers: Rick Rubin, David Kahne. Engineers include: David Kahne, Tchad Blake, Peggy McLeonard. Recorded at Crystal Sound, Skyline Recorders and Sound Castle, Los Angeles, California; Sunset Sound Factory and Sunset Sound, Hollywood, California. Includes liner notes by Mark Rowland.
Somewhat unfortunately, 1990's GREATEST HITS covers only the Bangles' years at Columbia Records, meaning that their great garage-rocking debut single, "Getting Out of Hand," and their fantastic self-titled 1982 EP are MIA. Also, the collection focuses almost exclusively on the Los Angeles power poppers' singles instead of their moodier and more experimental album tracks, giving a rather unbalanced portrait of the band. That said, the singles are excellent, from the classic no-nonsense beat-pop of "Hero Takes A Fall" and "Walking Down Your Street" to languid ballads like the heartbreaking "If She Knew What She Wants" and "Going Down To Liverpool." Their non-LP version of Paul Simon's "Hazy Shade of Winter" is also including sparing you from the embarrassment of owning the soundtrack to the wretched LESS THAN ZERO. The set closes with two previously unreleased tracks including a terrific folk-rock cover of Gary Zekley's "Where Were You When I Needed You."
