At the time the bangles seemed to be charactorised by "eternal flame" their biggest hit, which is sad since this sloppy ballard is not typical of the excellant singles they produced which had more of a a boppier edge. Breaking out of the LA Paisley Underground, their 1st 2 singles "Hero takes a fall" and "going down to Liverpool" are excellant 60's pastiches, a style seen later in their cover of "Hazy Shade of Winter". Their next album a different place included 5 singles with "Manic Monday" and "Walk like an Egyptian" both excellant tracks providing the commercial breakthrough and highlighting the playing and writing skills of the band. However being the 80's it then focused on their looks, Susanah Hoffs in particular and the music suffered, and eventually the band broke. Fun whole it lasted
