Greatest Hits (Chapter 1) - Backstreet Boys

Everyone has heard of the backstreet boys haven't they? Okay so alot of you have probably just looked at this and thought 'no way a op on the backstreet boys' but they are a group I have to say I am quite fond of (aswell as rock music, nu metal etc etc.... I do like some pop too)

...I cannot say much to that, when they started out they were a typical boy band, dressing in the same clothes etc etc etc but as I have been a fan from day one I have to admit that I have see them grow not just grow up in themselfs but musically too and they now also write a lot more of their music. For those that don't know The Backstreet Boys are made up of five members, Nick, Howie, Brian, Kevin and AJ and have been together some years now. Another 'boyband' I hear you all shout ...... and to be honest I cannot say much to that, when they started out they were a typical boy band, dressing in the same clothes etc etc etc but as I have been a fan from day one I have to admit that I have see them grow not just grow up in themselfs but musically too and they now also write a lot more of their music. I am eagerly awaiting some new material but for the time being I will tell you about their last album which is called 'Greatest hits - chapter one' which is a collection of all their singles over the years and all of their albums. Released back in 2001 if i remember rightly. If your looking for this cd online or in a shop the cover is very plain, backstreet boys written in a browny orange colour at the top on a black background, a picture of all of the guys heads in the middle with the album title and all the songs on the album listed. The booklet inside the cover has unseen before pictures from the start when they were just trying to make an impact on the charts. Also throughout the booklet they also have pages dedicated to each member and various pictures of them throughout their career in the backstreet boys and how they have changed. On the back of the album you have all the songs listed (like I said these are all the singles released by the guys) and shows the cover of each single.
Onto the songs:

I WANT IT THAT WAY

Starts off with Brians gorgeous vocals, a slow start which is picked up by the gorgeous man himself Mr Nick Carter. A very catchy upbeat tune to start off the album. All of the guys vocals really do this song justice.

EVERYBODY (BACKSTREETS BACK)
This song is one that will ALWAYS remind me of the summer. Do you remember the video for this one aswell....? it won lots of awards. A EXTREMLEY upbeat and catchy song which everyone knows. This was certainly an excellent choice of comeback song which they released as the first single for their second album. I think AJs singing on this song is excellent and I like also the bits that Nick sings are good also 'am I original?' This is also the longer version rather than the radio version which is actually on the backsstreets back album.

AS LONG AS YOU LOVE ME
This song is one of my Favourites out of all of their music. Not as upbeat as backstreets back this is a song basically about all they want is to be loved by this one person and it doesn't matter about what they have done in the past. All of their voices come together well in this song, mainly lead vocals from Brian and Nick. Also another little interesting fact, Brian met his now Wife on the set of this video!

SHOW ME THE MEANING OF BEING LONELY
A very slow start to this song and carries on throughout the song. This is basically as the title says, they are finding out how to try and carry on without the person you love. It is nice to hear some more of Kevin and Howies lead vocals on this song.

QUIT PLAYING GAMES (WITH MY HEART)
An old song from their first album, self titled 'Backstreet boys' this was one of their first few singles to be released. An upbeat song again which is basically all about being messed about. It has a very catchy beat to it and the chorus is also very catchy.

WE'VE GOT IT GOING ON
The first single from the backstreet boys if I remember correctly? (If i am wrong it was then get down your the one for me) Very upbeat again a good song which got people to sit up and take notice of this new band out. A bit out dated now but never less if you are a backstreet boys fan this is still a classic.

ALL I HAVE TO GIVE
The third single from the backstreet boys from their second album. Another slow song explaining that they will give what ever they have for this one person. This song shows off their harmonies perfectly and how great they really are.

LARGER THAN LIFE
A single from their third album, very upbeat. Listen to the words in this song and you hear a story, one which is so true. It explains how we (the fans) completely change their life that they are always in the limelight because of us as that they are grateful and wish that they could thank us some other way. I think dedicating a song for their fans is a good way of saying thank you personally. Very upbeat and catchy, one I find hard to get out of my head after listening to it!!!

I'LL NEVER BREAK YOUR HEART
I'll never break your heart is another slow love song. One which I have to say I have always liked. This starts off with Kevin talking and then AJ doing some slower singing which I like.

THE CALL
Starts off with the phone ringing and Ajs girlfriend answering and him trying to speak to her but gets cut off. Basically this tells a story of not being not completely faithful, having someone waiting at home and going off with someone.

SHAPE OF MY HEART
Starts off again with Brians soothing tones.....getting a little livlier at the chorus where they have been keeping themselves to themselves and then they decide to show this person what they are really like.

GET DOWN (YOU'RE THE ONE FOR ME)
Another of their very early singles from the first album. This song reminds me so much of 'weve got it going on' as it is the same style. Again this song could be classed as outdated now but again, a classic to any BSB fan. AJ even tries his hand at a little rap in the middle of this song!!

ANYWHERE FOR YOU
Another release from album number one, another slowie basically saying that they will go anywhere for this special someone.

THE ONE
Upbeat again (how many times have I used that word though this op?!) Released from album no. 3 'Millennium' this song is saying about being 'the one' which this person can rely on and do everything for them.

MORE THAN THAT
More than that is released from album four 'Black and Blue', a slow number. I don't think that this song is single material personally but even still a very good song.

DROWNING
This song is purley from this album and released as a single. This song was actually released at a time when my dad died and always reminded me of that but some of the words remind me so much of it 'can't imagine life without your love' (though they are generally talking about their partner) This song always brings tears to my eyes but that is because of my reasons but I think this is one of the most fantastic songs that the backstreet boys have ever done.

Like I say you are probably not a bacskstreet boys fan but I know a lot of different ages of people who like their music if not them. I can say I have seen them live (a few years ago now) but even so they REALLY CAN sing (unlike alot of boybands now) and put on a good show and cut it live so, so well.

Maybe my way of explaining songs is not so great but it really is a good all round mix of the backstreet boys without having to buy all of their albums. Good catchy music I haven't and probably won't get bored of listening too.
