Eurythmics throughout the 1980s were--at least until you take this 21-song anthology for a spin. From 1982's "Love is a Stranger" through 1989's "Angel", Eurythmics Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart, working with a variety of producers and directors (sometimes including Stewart himself), turned out a remarkable array of clips. Often enigmatic, usually arty, sometimes rather cold and humourless (if not un-amusing), they are never less than thoughtful and provocative, with an extraordinary range of ideas and techniques. Those same adjectives apply to Lennox, who's not only a sultry, soulful vocalist but a fascinatingly chameleonic visual presence; she assumes dozens of different personas, from red-haired androgyne to Monroe-esque vamp, from mousy homemaker to leather-clad dominatrix and beyond (she and Stewart both play some 15 or more different roles in "The King & Queen of America" alone), and is rarely less than riveting. It also doesn't hurt that the visuals accompany some outstanding songs and performances, such as "Sweet Dreams", "Here Comes the Rain", "Sisters are Doin' it for Themselves" (with Aretha Franklin), "Who's That Girl?", "Missionary Man", "Miracle of Love", "Would I Lie to You?", and many more. And while the synth-pop style of the earlier recordings sounds a bit dated these days, the videos have lost none of their appeal. --Sam Graham, Amazon.com
Advantages: Great lyrics, good music and that fabulous voice! Disadvantages: Could do without some of the songs on this list and repetious lyrics could wear down listeners.

I have been a fan of Eurythmics since they first swept into my sound space in the late eighties. ... ...the years, but this is usually the one that ends up getting re-purchased the most, which is a sure sign of a good album. Let's take a look at the list...
Sweet Dreams:
Even if you haven't heard of Eurythmics, you probably know this song. Synthesizers, drums, backup and Annie's lilting voice...

Advantages: What the 80's were all about Disadvantages: they don't make music like this anymore
Ok , I’ve brought ops on Queen , Fleetwood Mac , The Carpenters and Roxette , and with time on my hand , lately I gone through my favourite sometimes long forgotten albums , and so here is another side of my vast musical likes , this time a synthesizer based band - The Eurythmics . Just watch out for the next installment , Erasure .
‘Greatest Hits’ - Eurythmics
Talk of the 80’s and one British group always mentioned are the Eurythmics , such was ... ...Dave Stewart , they started off life in The Tourists . How many of you will remember ‘I Only Want To Be With You’ . Quite a few no doubt.
With the breakup of The Tourists , Annie and Dave went on to the Eurythmics , and at the height of their popularity released seven studio albums , prior to this compilation , and what a compilation it is , comprising of eighteen 80’s anthems , namely :
1) ‘Love Is A stranger’ - 1982

Advantages: great, classic songs, dig that 80's sound man! Annie Lennox is amazing! Disadvantages: You might NOT dig that 80's sound...erm that's it I think
...So I asked for the Greatest hits for my birthday.
I only knew 4 songs on the album(sweet dreams, there must be an angel, sisters are doin' it for themselves and sex crime), but I'd only ever heard good things about them, and I'm glad I did take the risk in getting the album.
Okay, so much of the accompanying music is VERY 80's, you would find it very hard to deny the poignancy of many of the lyrics, if not all of them. And while much of the music ... ...variety in the style of music, such as the inclusion of a sax solo on there must be an angel, and the Hawaiian sound to Right By your Side. And while many of the tracks have a certain dark quality, there are others, such as Sisters are doin' it for themselves, which are sheerly inspirational, and also all time classics(I knew the song by ear, but I never realised it was Eurythmics!). And Sex Crime, another favourite of mine, does the voice messing ...

Advantages: The definitive collection ... all the best tracks included Disadvantages: Maybe a few too many at the end
...Overall this is a ‘must have’ compilation for Eurythmics fans. Whether you choose audio or video or both will depend upon your inclination and wallet. For the less dedicated it would still justify a ‘must see’ rating.

Advantages: Fantastic collection of songs Disadvantages: A shame that only 18 could be included
...Released in 1991, Eurythmics Greatest Hits catalogues a success of chart topping singles from 1982-89, the very best from the numerous albums they made.
A mix of some quite up beat hits such as 'Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves' (featuring Aretha Franklin) and 'Thorn In My Side' with the more ballad like 'Miracle Of Love' and 'Angel' makes this a must for the music collection of both Eurythmics fans and anyone with appreciation of great British ...

Advantages: A pretty good greatest hits. Disadvantages: Really just a rehash of their previous greatest hits plus 3 new tracks.
...Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart are back. But, isn't this just a rehash of their previous greatesthits? Oh dear, i sense a little cashing in going on!
-----GreatestHits again?!-----
It's a shame when a good band like the Eurythmics just fires out another greatesthits album. You would have thought that by now there would have been enough new material for a fresh album. With the talent of this duo, you wonder what the motivation was for this album. Who is it for? Fans will have to buy it for the new tracks, and the casual listener will probably buy it for the "ooh i remember that one" track listing.
-----Who are they?-----
Annie Lennox. Scottish born female vocalist with such range and depth to her voice she could make the yellow pages and any 118 directory enquiries service sound interesting.
Dave A Stewart. Fantastic...
