Ok , I’ve brought ops on Queen , Fleetwood Mac , The Carpenters and Roxette , and with time on my hand , lately I gone through my favourite sometimes long forgotten albums , and so here is another side of my vast musical likes , this time a synthesizer based band - The Eurythmics . Just watch out for the next installment , Erasure .

‘Greatest Hits’ - Eurythmics

Talk of the 80’s and one British group always mentioned are the Eurythmics , such was the impact they had.
Made up of Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart , they started off life in The Tourists . How many of you will remember ‘I Only Want To Be With You’ . Quite a few no doubt.
With the breakup of The Tourists , Annie and Dave went on to the Eurythmics , and at the height of their popularity released seven studio albums , prior to this compilation , and what a compilation it is , comprising of eighteen 80’s anthems , namely :

1) ‘Love Is A stranger’ - 1982

What a start , both to the album , and the Eurythmics musical career , although this track is taken from their second album release . The singing of Annie brings shivers down your spine , so spine tingling is it . A timeless classic if ever there was one .

2) ‘Sweet Dreams ( Are Made Of This )’ - 1983

If only dreams were......powerful singing with a tidy beat , no one can ever forget this one.

3) ‘Who’s That Girl’ - 1983

Haunting vocals , to a timeless ballad . WOW .

4) ‘Right Beside You’ - 1983

Carnival feel , with whistles and ‘boom boom boom’ drums , not forgetting the steel drums of course . Makes you feel your in Rio .

5) ‘Here Comes The Rain’ - 1983

Keyboards to the fore , with great guitar accompaniment. A moody rock ballad , strong in content , with great chorus .

6) ‘There Must Be An Angel ( Playing With My Heart) ’ - 1985

Sung as if trying to every ounce of voice from within . Not one of my personal favourites , but still great pop .

7) ‘Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves’ - 1985

Rock based , women thing . Can you guess the famous 2nd female voice. ?

8) ‘It’s Alright ( Baby’s Coming Back )’ - 1985

One of my favourites . A fantastic track , sang with that feeling of relief .

9) ‘When Tomorrow Comes’ - 1986

Really upbeat pop song , a great rhythm , matched by superb vocals . Just tap your fingers to the background drumming .

10) ‘You Have Placed A Chill In My Heart’ - 1987

The closest the Eurythmics will ever come to a hippy love song . Thought provoking.

11) ‘Miracle Of Love’ - 1986

True love ballad , with chilling vocals , and superb sing-a-long chorus , that everyone knows .

12) ‘Sex Crime ( 1984 )’ - 1984

This and the next title , are my all time favourites . Big brother is watching you babe . Upbeat , finger tapping , with a great beginning .

13) ‘Thorn In My Side’

Everybody has one , fortunately for the Eurythmics this isn’t theirs ! This song is an epitome to 80’s pop .

14) ‘Don’t Ask Me Why’ - 1989

Never released in the UK , but big in Germany , this song is very moody , and wouldn’t suit our ears single wise . At the start you say No , but it really does grow on you.

15) ‘Angel’ - 1989

Guitar based ballad , with a superb vocal contribution by Annie . A really strong tune.

16) ‘Would I Lie To You’ - 1989

Big band rock feel , heavily reliant on trumpet to emphersize Annie's upbeat performance.

17) ‘Missionary Man’ - 1986

No - not about a woman’s other half’s sexual preferences ! . Dark rock song , not one of my favourites . Sounds a lot like ~Lynnard Skynnard

18) ‘I Need A Man’ - 1987

Annie sings a mean tune here , self explanatory title , sung with authority , almost domineering

To sum up this album ,a superb collection of the best years of the Eurythmics . @00 saw their comeback with ‘Peace’ , another great album , which perhaps one day , I’ll report on.

As for the cover , eight sides , five of which are used to the full . The center pages contain images of their previous albums , some of the covers deserve real praise , such were their impact . Not so of this one though . Song titles are reproduced twice , once with credits etc. Overall a bit of a let down I feel .
