Ha ha ha!! Oh, man. Journey's Greatest Hits. Back to the 80's we go. Back to mushy AOR, back to crushing power ballads. Conjures up images of a band wearing leather pants, curly perms and throwing (sorry throwin') shapes on stage, as thousands of people in the crowd do that stupid dancey/shuffle thingy that only Americans know how to do. "Journey, wooo, man they rock!!!" Considering this band, all of the above is true.
Most people who've heard of the band will know they began as something of a freeform experimental jazz-rock outfit (as did their contemporaries Chicago) before morphing into a 1980's AOR corporate monster (as did their contemporaries Chicago) and having a drippy-looking singer with a high whiny voice (as did....OK you know who). There is one difference though....Journey came from San Francisco and Chicago came from, well, ummm, Chicago.
Laugh if you will, but this is just sheer good fun. Take it from me there is nothing better than getting up on a sunny Sunday morning and treating the neighbours to a blast of epic bombast like "Be Good To Yourself" or the OTT pomp of "Don't Stop Believin". Watch them wave merrily at you as you pretend that you, indeed DO have poodle hair and are fronting a million-selling American rock group, as you sing along to the impossibly huge break-up anthem "Seperate Ways (Worlds Apart)". They'll like it so much they'll soon be knocking on the door asking you if they can come in to listen too.
Grab that hairbrush and chant along to the big sing-song chorus of "Ask The Lonely". Take a breather as the band reprise the Huey Lewis-sounding "I'll Be Alright Without You", and drift along to "Who's Crying Now", the ballad from 1981 that my local FM station still insists on playing every day.
Amazingly enough, for a band built on bombastic FM rock they also throw in the touching "Lights", a song about San Francisco, and the lost-on-the-road-without-you tearjerker "Faithfully", complete with its awful screeching coda, though the sentiment is real enough.
I know, liking this sort of stuff should be illegal. This kind of music should have been put to rest by Nirvana and their cohorts, yeah? Well I'm afraid judging by the success of Motley Crue's recent tour, I reckon the time is right for poodle rock to make a comeback. Journey have a new album just out, too, called "Definitions". All we need now is for Cinderella to release their blockbusting Best Of and we'll be well away. New millenium? Tell ya mate, it never happened.
Advantages: An excellent introduction to Journey Disadvantages: None
Journey are a band I have grown to like more and more over the last 3 or 4 years. The only song I really knew by them was the ballad 'Open Arms' which has been covered by a few artists including Mariah Carey.
I really liked this song and downloaded another ballad by them titled 'Faithfully' which I often listened to on my pc.
I was browsing at a car boot sale a few years ago and saw a cassette of their album 'Raised On Radio' for 20p. I bought it and listened to it in my car while driving home. I liked it right away and from then on have grown to really like Journey.
I decided to buy their greatesthits album after seeing it on Ebay at a bargain price, and it has became one of my most played albums.
THE BAND :
Journey are an American rock band who formed in 1973 with former members of Santana, but they have undergone a few line ...

the band are all about. Former in 1994 after the death of Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain, the Foo Fighters have grown from a solo project by front man Dave Grohl to become one of the biggest rock bands in the world. It's been quite a journey with various different styles and approaches to each album but this greatesthits collection really captures the bands sound over all 15 years and puts it together in a very well thought-out order.
For most Foo Fighters fans I'm sure their CD collection or I Tunes playlists will include what they consider to be their favourite tracks by the band. I was amazed listening to this album just how many of the tracks on this album formed a part of my own favourite tracks by the band. There is an excellent mixture of the faster, louder and more upbeat tracks as well as the mellower sounding moments that Grohl ...
I have been a fan of Madonna’s since I was 9 yrs old and I’m still a big fan of hers now. I think she’s amazing and the best female artist around.
I do like some of her songs off her ‘Music’ album but I still prefer all her early career stuff she has done.
I have never seen her live, but would like to one day.
The Immaculate Collection is Madonna’s first, greatesthits collection. It was released in 1990. It contains 15 of her greatesthits since her career began in 1983 and has 5 UK number ones on it. The album itself takes you though a journey of Madonna’s early career from 1984-1991. It is arranged in chronological order. It has all the well known tracks that you would expect to find. So for all that it’s well worth £12.99.
This by far is my favourite album she’s ...

Album Notes
Journey: Steve Perry (vocals); Neal Schon (guitar); Gregg Rolie, Jonathan Cain (keyboards); Ross Valory, Randy Jackson (bass); Steve Smith, Aynsley Dunbar, Larrie Londin (drums). Producers: Mike Stone, Roy Thomas Baker, Steve Perry, Geoffrey Workman, Kevin Elson. Along with Styx and REO Speedwagon, Journey ruled the charts and radio airwaves in the early '80s. And like the aforementioned bands, Journey began in the '70s, so obviously the compilers of its 1988 GREATEST HITS release had a lot of material to choose from. Journey's sound was a merger of hard rock, compliments of guitarist Neal Schon, and the melodic pop/ballads of singer Steve Perry. This resulted in such classic rock radio staples as "Any Way You Want It," "Separate Ways," "Open Arms," "Don't Stop Believin'," "Wheel in the Sky," and "Who's Crying Now," all included here.
