Britney Spears

Britney Spears is actually well known to everyone, but a brief introduction. Her full name is Britney Jean Spears born December 2, 1981 in America. She was seventeen when she got in the spotlight after her first hit with "Baby One More Time 'and now has more than 83 million albums sold worldwide. Early in her career she was known to be very successful and worked nonstop through her fourth album In the Zone. The Greatest Hits followed but soon her personal life overshadowed her music career. She mainly came in the news for her excesses. Luckily she is now more positive in the news for she seems to be doing well.

Greatest Hits – My Prerogative

This Greatest Hits album was released in 2004 and contains all the best songs from Britney that she has released so far. I must say it felt very early for her to release this kind of album. She had released quite a few albums before this one, but whether it is sufficient for a Greatest Hits album? The album is well stocked with up to 17 numbers of which a few new songs.

Slave 4u

"Slave 4U" is the song in which she indicates that she is sexually and a grown up woman. It's a funky dance track with a seductive beat. It's a great dance song that is not too fast. It's definitely one of my favorites, because it has less pop and more dance influences.

Overprotected

Overprotected is clearly a song where she was still a girl and not so much an adult, but it tries to be one. It seems to have been written to her father. It begins like the slave 4u song with a more constant speed, but has a more pop and R & B influence and remains mostly calm. It's more of a ballad.

Toxic

"Toxic" was written by Cathy Dennis, who also wrote Can't Get You Out Of My Head for Kylie Minogue. She wrote a clear dance track for Britney and was released as a single of this album. It has a distinct great dance beat in the background so you will soon want to dance. Apparently this number is almost the most played song on the radio in the past ten years. Who is number 1? Kylie Minogue with Cant get you out of my head.

Me Against the Music

This single from the album, "Me Against the Music" is a fantastic piece of infectious pop with a good beat that cannot fail. The partnership seemed perfect with Madonna, but it was not the hit that everyone had expected. Madonna also took the lead more instead of Britney. However, it is a great dance song with a good beat and definitely a good start of the album.

My opinion

It is a reasonable album and one more for the real fans. You do see the growth that Britney has made in the relatively short years, but the album feels to me more that it was released too quickly. She should have done it now were the album can reflect 10 years and not just 5 years.

For me there are only a few really good songs like Toxic, Slave 4u, Boys and Do Somethin, significantly more upbeat dance numbers. Other songs like Lucky, I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman are clearly more for like teenage girls. Because of this I listen the album not very often. Again for the true fans it will probably be a good album, but for me it’s reasonable. Three stars.
