As any Texas fan will tell you, their style has varied somewhat over the years and this album illustrates this point very well. The majority of the tracks are taken from their more successful later albums such as "White On Blonde" and "Hush" but they saw fit to include hits such as "I Don’t Want A Lover" and "Everyday Now" from one of the early albums, South Side.
Personally, I would never had thought of buying this CD as I already own a Texas album or two already. However, after receiving it as a gift a few months ago, I have decided that it would be a good purchase for the "part-time" Texas fan (like myself) who likes their chart hits and maybe only owns one previous album. The is because the CD brings together their best work from the past twelve years without having any poorer "filler" songs (which unfortunately are present on their other albums).
One song which did catch my eye (or should that be ear?) was "Inner Smile" which I did not recognise from previous albums. I had initially thought that it was possibly a favourite song of the band that had never been released but they wanted to include it anyway. It actually become one of my favourite tracks as it has a slightly different style to the songs which Texas are known for.
"Inner Smile" is a bit more on the "poppy" side with strong vocals from Sharleen and a catchy sing-a-long melody. Needless to say, it has just been released as a single and will probably be one of their biggest hits in my opinion.
The full track listing is as follows:
1. I don't want a lover 2. In demand 3. Say what you want 4. Summer son 5. Inner smile 6. So in love with you 7. Black eyed boy 8. So called friend 9. Everyday now 10. In our lifetime 11. Halo 12. Guitar song 13. Prayer for you 14. When we are together 15. Insane 16. Tired of being alone 17. Put your arms around me 18. Say what you want (all day and every day) - Texas & Method Man/RZA
I have also been reliably informed that there is also a limited edition version available containing two CDs. The first one is exactly as above but the second one contains remixes and also CD-ROM videos of some of their hits. The listing of the second CD is as follows (taken from amazon.co.uk)
1. Say what you want (Rae and Christian mix) 2. Summer son (Giorgio Moroder mix) 3. Black Eyed Boy (Trailerman Black Eyed Disco mix) 4. In our Lifetime (Jules' disco trip mix) 5. In Demand (Sunship mix) 6. Put your arms around me (Waetherall's Electric for Bird mix) 7. I Don't Want a Lover (video) 8. Halo (video) 9. In Demand (video)
The ordinary version is currently on sale at CD-WOW for £8.99 (free P&P) and you can get the limited edition version for £15.99 (+ P&P) at Amazon.co.uk The two CDs are also available on the high street at various prices.
So if you are a "part-time" (or even a "full-time") Texas fan then this might be worth buying as it has all of their best songs together on one CD. And for those of you who are just about to pop out and buy the "Inner Smile" CD single, why not add £5-6 to it and get this greatest hits CD from CD-WOW instead.

Texas - The Greatest Hits is definately the most played CD in my collection at the moment. Wheather I am working, chilling out or waking up, it cannot be beaten!

This album is a fantastic Sunday morning post pub wake up call, I find anyway.
Advantages: A perfect potted history of an enduring pop band's mixed career Disadvantages: Early releases are largely ignored, and it's definitely tailored to their new-found audience that came onboard with White On Blonde
