My sister went though a stage of really really annoying me by singing “Black Eyed Boy” every time I attempted mascara or eye liner or any sort, I had no idea what see was on about and sulked and screamed!! Since then (as well as learning that eyeliner is not meant to make the wearer look like a rare breed of panda) I have found that this in fact is a song and not just a taunt
My mummy bought me “Texas- Greatest Hits” for revising for some exams, I think she chose it because it happened to be in the top sellers list in Safeway when she was shopping, I wasn’t really a fan of Texas before this and I have always thought the lead singer was a little plain and dull not the flashy attractive extrovert stars that would stand out in a crowd. I mean she wears nice shirts and jeans the sort of clothes I would wear and she walks rather than struts. No doubt makes her a nicer person
than most famous people but not as famous…Texas don’ have a sparkling image but if you happen to stumble across them by hearing their odd hit and buy the whole album you’d be pleasantly surprised.
Greatest Hits feature the songs In Demand Say What You Want I Don’t Want a Lover Black Eyed Boy Inner Smile Summer Sun
Now I’m sure even if you aren’t a fan of Texas you’ll automatically know these titles and if it were playing in a pub you’d be humming along.
Other famous songs off it are Halo So in Love With You When We Are Together
I could continue with this to list every track on the CD and they would still be recognisable titles, or as I said before if you don’t recognise the title you would no doubt know the songs.
Texas is actually a band I’m lead to believe there are even me in it at you can’t really hear them from the tracks, the style of music is kind of varied basically the lead singer, singing with mainly a guitar backing but often other instruments and in some cases a full orchestra or at least a few violins and ‘cellos thrown in for good measure.
The lyrics are really good almost profound, track one “I Don’t Want a Lover” almost reduced me to tears as my bestfriend/boyfriend had dumped me the night before and I’d sat through my 3 hour exam thinking of all the time we had spent together other the past 3 years…it’s amazing I passed the exam I was the only candidate and so was on my own in a blank room, I got up wandered around and cried for ages…I assumed I’d failed, I was 100% sure one of the questions was impossible and I said so…in the middle of my maths paper I wrote “This question is IMPOSSIBLE , you can’t have a Poisson dist’n with different mean and variance…” to my amusement the university wrote to my school in praise the question was impossible and every other candidate had tried to answer it!!!!!!!! I passed and acquired a scholarship and unconditional offer despite my rude scribbled comments all over the paper. Basically I really like Texas now, the lyrics are good, there are quite a few songs I relate to well and they all make sense and mean this they don’t tend to fill lines with doo be doos or be bop she dops or la la la, and also things that rhyme, rhyme without ridiculous pronunciations, also all the lyrics are printed in the inlay card. It’s a nice inlay card a few pictures of the singer (completely make up free and pretty but not sexy) pictures of the band, a couple of thank-yous without thanking everyone and the kitchen sink….and track information, all the stuff you need to be in a CD case without advertising every other single ever released.
Basically my point is that I had never really been a fan of Texas before but after being bought it (something I wouldn’t have bought myself) I have really got to like it and the while CD too not just the odd track.
Great CD give it a chance….it doesn’t have sexy figures to sell it, flashing lights or neon signs but it is still there in the top sellers give it a chance it’s better than I expected,

Advantages: Good mix of both older and newer tracks, has "Inner Smile" which has just been released as a single Disadvantages: Not worth buying if you already have all of those albums
Advantages: A perfect potted history of an enduring pop band's mixed career Disadvantages: Early releases are largely ignored, and it's definitely tailored to their new-found audience that came onboard with White On Blonde
