The proper op at last.....!
Given the oportunity to re-submit my op that was misplaced in this category ( see later ) , I have finally got around to placing the correct op in place , via a complete re-write. Hope you enjoy this version.
Ask any Britsh adult over the age of 20 who are / were the greatest rock band ever , and for every ten answers the name Queen will probably featureat least 60% of the time , such is the respect for a truely great British rock band.
They just happen to me my favourite group of all time ( sadly I never actually got to see them live , which is my greatest regret ) .
So who are ( or were ) Queen ? ***********************************
Vocals and piano : Freddie Mercury ( Deceased ) Guitars / vocals : Brian May Bass guitar : John Deacon Percussion / vocals : Roger Meadows Taylor
And a brief history ********************
Not
to outdo my op on Queen ( now to be found under the category ‘Everything That Starts With Q’ , I will not place / reprint this information , suffice to say that in effect the group formed in their college years , way back in 1969 , with Freddie Mercury and Brian May joining forces . Many people come and went from the group , until 1971 , when the group as we now them settled down . From here on , they practised and performed to fellow students , and were eventually spotted by Trident Records and signed to their label in 1972. With college complete , the group focused on their music , and in late ‘72 were finally given access to the recording studio’s and in down time ( time in which the studio’s were not being used by the kbown artists /groups ) , they went on to produce their first album , simply titled ‘Queen’ , which was released in 1973 .
A further nine albums would be released , before the release of ‘Greatest Hits’ in 1981 . An album containing no less than 17 tracks , with each of the previous studio albums all having a track or two on this album. While reading ‘Greatest Hits’ do not think that all Queen released singlea up to this point are included , this is not so , however what you do get is a superb collection representing the very best of the Queen we all love.
As for the tracks , well here goes :
“Greatest Hits” - 1981 ************************
Track listing : **************
1) BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY +++++++++++++++++++++++++
Probably the greatest rock opera ever released / written . It revlutionised the pop video , and made a mockery of the then fad of two minute songs .
2) ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Funky little tune this , very catchy , but definately not the tradition Queen rock so many admire .
3) KILLER QUEEN ++++++++++++++++++
Vintage Queen , sounds like a synthesiser being used , but no way! Pure unadulterated greatness.
4) FAT BOTTOMED GIRLS ++++++++++++++++++++++++
‘Fat Bottomed Girls You Make The Rocking World Go Round’ -oh yeah ! Anthem like rock .
5) BICYCLE RACE ++++++++++++++++++
Oh to have seen this performed live with all those lovely lasses riding in the nude . Queen never did things by half , and this track proves it . Listen carefully to hear thew beginnings of the operatic era .
6) YOU'RE MY BEST FRIEND +++++++++++++++++++++++++++
A rock ballad of immence stature , performed only as Queen can .
7) DON'T STOP ME NOW ++++++++++++++++++++++++
Starts off oh so gently , but progresses to true rock . Simple perfect .
8) SAVE ME +++++++++++++
Another ballad on love lost . I can still remember the release of the white dove at the end of the video .
9) CRAZY LITTLE THING CALLED LOVE +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Queen at their funkiest / popest . Not fully appreciated by fans , but a great live rack . Anyone remember black leather clad Freddie on the Harley ?
10) SOMEBODY TO LOVE +++++++++++++++++++++++
Operatic ballad , that I rate higher than Bo. Rhap . Sheer brilliance.
11) NOW I'M HERE +++++++++++++++++
Possibly the greatest hard rock songs ever written . Play it loud , play it proud.
12) GOOD OLD FASHIONED LOVER BOY +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
30’s feel love song with that magical touch of Queen . Pure fun .
13) PLAY THE GAME +++++++++++++++++++
Queen go pop . A tune ala track 10 . Some great guitar riffs added for that extra special touch .
14) FLASH +++++++++++
The only song possible for release from the soundtrack of the film of the same name. Not a huge success , but never-the-less befited the film syle perfectly.
15) SEVEN SEAS OF RHYE +++++++++++++++++++++++++
The full version as found on Queen 2 . Early Queen rock .
16) WE WILL ROCK YOU ++++++++++++++++++++++
What can you say about this and the final track . Highly respected and recognised the world over . Both used for any mamouth sports event and many a TV show . True Rock Anthems.
17 WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS +++++++++++++++++++++++++++
My choice tracks : SOMEBODY TO LOVE , NOW I'M HERE , BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY

Very good review on one of the best bands ever. I was fortunate to see them play live at St James Park back in the eighties and it was fantastic best gig i've ever been to. Freddie even posed for me so i could take a picture but unfortunately the flash wasn't working on my camera so it came out very dark but at least i got him!

Wasn't sure how to rate this one. An excellent op, but I could after a lot of deliberation only give it an h I'm afraid, as I thought it was actually about Greatest Hits 1. If this op has been put in the wrong category, please let me know when it is moved and I will re-rate it. It's good to read stuff from another Queen fan though. Thanks. Ali.
