recall how many hits Whitney Houston was able to achieve. The two CDs on Greatest Hits track Houston's rise from mid-1980s hit machine balladeer to standard-setting diva. Disc 1, CoolDown, runs chronologically through Houston's down-tempo love songs, from "Saving All My Love For You" and "I Will Always Love You" to the cleverly conceived new duet with Deborah Cox, "Same Script, Different Cast". She's also showcased as the remixee of choice for DJs on the second disc, Throw Down, which serves as the antidote to the lovesick first disc. Calling in marquee mix masters, Houston's old-shoe tunes get a new millennium polish. "My Love Is Your Love", reinterpreted by Jonathan Peters, captures the versatility of Houston's songs by making the downbeats danceable without going totally Euro-cheese. In contrast, Junior Vasquez's remix of 1985's "How Will I Know" pokes fun at the song's 1980s fluffiness by layering in bells, lasers effects, and echoes on top of Whitney's enthusiastic vocals. --Heidi Sherman

I am a big fan of Whitney Houston, I think she has a beautiful, moving voice that has not been beaten since. I have already done a review on her first album, Whitney Houston but by far my favourite album of hers has to be Whitney, The Greatest Hits! Just a little background on the queen of pop herself incase you haven't heard of her:
Whitney Houston was born on August 9th, 1963 and is an extremely successful recording artist and actress. She comes from a very successful family and upbringing, her aunt is Dionne Warwick and her godmother is Aretha Franklin. Music was in the blood and she starting singing gospel music in her local church at aged 11. In the words of Clive Davis, written on one of the booklets that comes with the CD's, "For the next generation, there's a singer that combines the fiery gospel of Aretha Franklin with the stunning elegance and the beauty of lyric phrasing of Lena Horne, and she is Whitney Houston." Spoken in 1985, he was definitely true!
Generally I tend to think that greatest hits albums are a waste of money because if you have all the artists other CD's you probably have most of the tracks anyway but this album is well worth it. It's the one place where you can get all her old classics, as well as new songs and some funky duets.
The album comes as a double CD but if you get the DVD version you also get music videos of past hits, live performances and interviews. The music videos are great as you really see her in action.
The CD was released in 2000. Like I said it's a double CD and each CD has a really cool title. Disc 1 is called Cool Down and features her more chilled, love songs even though she still belts out some cracking vocals at the end of mot of the songs. Classics for me on this CD feature One Moment in Time that was the 1988 Olympics tribute song, Saving all my Love for You and Didn't We Almost Have it All. They are quite laid back songs but do pick up at the end of them.
Disc 2 is called Throw Down. I love that title for a CD, to me it just implies that you can put this CD on and really just dance and let loose and is especially good for driving in the car to. Classics for me on this side include, If I Told You That (a duet with George Michael), Queen of the Night from the Bodyguard soundtrack and my all-time favourite, I Wanna Dance with Somebody!. Total upbeat, shake your body tracks, brilliant.
The rest of the tracks are as follows:
Disc 1
"Saving All My Love for You" "Greatest Love of All" "One Moment in Time" "I Have Nothing" "I Will Always Love You" "Run to You" "You Give Good Love" "All At Once" "Where Do Broken Hearts Go" "If You Say My Eyes Are Beautiful" (Duet with Jermaine Jackson) "Didn't We Almost Have It All" "All The Man That I Need" "Exhale (Shoop Shoop)" "Count on Me" (Duet with CeCe Winans) "I Believe in You and Me" "I Learned From The Best" "Same Script, Different Cast" (Duet with Deborah Cox) "Could I Have This Kiss Forever" (Duet with Enrique Iglesias)
Disc 2
"If I Told You That" (Duet with George Michael) "Fine" "My Love Is Your Love" "It's Not Right, But It's Okay" "Heartbreak Hotel" (featuring Faith Evans and Kelly Price) "Step by Step" "Queen Of The Night" "I'm Every Woman" "Love Will Save the Day" "I'm Your Baby Tonight" "So Emotional" "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)" "How Will I Know" "I Will Always Love You" "Greatest Love of All" "It's Not Right, But It's Okay" "I'm Your Baby Tonight"
Advantages: Her greatest hits, lots of variety, whitney's superb voice Disadvantages: Mmmmmmmm not sure, many a few too many remixes ?
...The album : Whitney Houston Greatest Hits, is a 2cd combination. The first side is titled Cool down, and is mostly compiled of her older hits, such as " I Will Always Love You " and " One Moment In Time ". The second side, titled the Throw Down side, contains a mixture of old and new, with hits such as " If I Told You That " and " It's Not Right But It's Ok " ....

Review of Greatest Hits - Whitney Houston
Advantages: The best songs she's ever done Disadvantages: none
...When I saw that her greatest hits were out I knew that I had to buy it or borrow it off someone ASAP because I knew that all of my favourite songs by her would be on there. I was right, there isn’t one song on the whole album that I don’t like, how can anyone not like songs by Whitney, she has a fantastic voice that can hit every note. It also includes duets with Enrique Iglesias, Jermaine Jackson, CeCe Winans, Deborah Cox, and George ... ...this kiss forever” by Whitney and Enrique. There are a few re-mixes, but they aren’t as bad as you’d expect them to be. The re-mix of “Greatest love of all” is brilliant it works really well.
If you haven’t got this album I suggest you go and buy it or if not borrow it off someone because you are definitely missing out. ...

Advantages: She can sing, oh yes, she can sing Disadvantages: Sounds like Mariah Carey on a couple of tracks
Whitney Houston's greatest hits. Well she's had a lot of them, hasn't she? While I like Whitney Houston's songs, I wouldn't normally go out and buy one of her albums, but when I see a double CD for £10.99, I'm gonna buy it. And I am so glad I did. Almost every one of these songs is a gem. This album has all the classics; Saving all my love for you, I will always love you, Step by step, I'm every woman and I wanna dance with somebody. Yet the greatest ... ...know, but the ones you've heard but never known they were Whitney's and for someone like me, only a kid when the earlier songs were released, there's a fair few of them. For a true fan, this would, presumably, be a defining work, for someone who likes Whitney Houston but doesn't really buy her stuff, it's still worth the money. ...

Advantages: 35 Tracks, including some new material Disadvantages: None (unless you really dislike Whitney)
'Whitney The GreatestHits' is a classic example of pure excellance in an album.
All too often we see artists, relatively new to the music scene, releasing a handful of singles from a couple of albums and then, unable to produce any new material, we see the 'best of' or 'greatesthits' album only a year or two from the start of their career.
WhitneyHouston has brought us a greatesthits album which spans 15 years of chart topping success. This double album contains 35 tracks of which 16 made number one in the singles chart, and 4 are new, including a duet with George Michael.
1985 saw the start of Whitney's rise to fame with a string of releases such as the funky 'How Will I Know' and the romantic 'Greatest Love Of All', but 1992 was the year that confirmed Whitney's talent not just as a singer but as a performer in general ...
Advantages: Slow music on one disc, fast music on the other Disadvantages: none
A 35 track, 2 cd collection of Whitney's finest songs. This collection has been produced in a great way:- Disc 1 is entitled 'Cool down' and includes songs such as 'saving all my love for you', 'exhale', 'i will always love you' and 'i learned from the best' and is good to listen to when relaxing as all tracks on this disc are the slower tracks she's released.
The other cd is entitled 'Throw down' and includes tracks such as 'i wanna dance with somebody', 'how will i know?' and 'step by step' and is full of lively tunes - ideal hoovering music!
This is an excellent compilation which showcases Whitney's talent over several years and an album which has been long overdue but nonetheless worth waiting for. ...
Advantages: Loads of classics everyone remember Disadvantages: None really
Who wouldn't think that a GreatestHits album from WhitneyHouston wouldn't be great?? With disc one, entitled "Cool Down" belting out all of her lush ballads, and included 3 fabulous new songs (2 new duets; one with Debra Cox and the other with Enrique Inglesias). Who can forget such anthems from the 80's, like "The Greatest Love of All" and "Saving All My Love for You." Whitney's hit it big with her big soft hits. Disc two, entitled "Throw Down" where she busts out with great remixes, some previously unreleased. The 1999 release of the remix of "It's Not Right, But It's Okay" and a wonderful club remix of "The Greatest Love of All" (previously unavailable!!!). Whitney's really hit the jackpot with this album! ...

Additional notes
Album Notes
Personnel includes: Whitney Houston, Deborah Cox, Kelly Price, George Michael, Jermaine Jackson, Faith Evans, Enrique Iglesias. Producers include: Raphael Saadiq, Q-Tip, David Foster, Rodney Jerkins, Wyclef Jean. Includes liner notes by Amy Linden. It should come as no surprise that a woman who counts Dionne Warwick as a cousin, Aretha Franklin as a family friend, and whose mother was a legendary session and gospel singer, became a phenomenally successful R&B act. Perhaps more surprising is that it took 17 years after first signing with Arista for Whitney Houston to produce her first greatest hits album. These hits are neatly compartmentalized into a "Cool Down" and a "Throw Down" disc, the former featuring ballads such as "Saving All My Love for You," while the latter showcases remixes of Whitney's uptempo singles such as "How Will I Know." Four new songs, three of which are duets, are also included. At the time of release, her golden voice had led to 16 Number 1 hits (that's two more than Madonna), an Emmy, Grammys and several notable collaborations. A stocking-filler for years to come, we'll wager.
