Advantages: Lots of bangers Disadvantages: Nothing specific
?Signature? was released in 2009 and dropped as the eighth album from the R&B singer Joe Thomas (although known mononymously as Joe). The crooner first hit it big with the new Jack Swing jam ?I?m In Luv? back in 1993 and was known mostly for his such as ?Stutter?, ?All The Things? and ?I Wanna Know? through the nineties and into the ?00s. Though mainstream attention has lessened, he still has continued to churn out new material and this 2009 album helped him to show that he hasn?t lost what he brought during the key R&B turning point during the nineties.
1. ?Majic?
We get the album off to a great start here as you find that you get a track from the singer where he brings forward a song that dropped as the lead single to the album and in spite of the fact that it didn?t really get too much exposure (or perform too well when it came to ...

**The Album**
"Majic"
The lead single from the album gets us under-way and this is a track that owners of the previous album will know as there is a little snippet at the end of the last album. This is a seductive love ballad with a catchy beat, this track is about the way you two feel in the bedroom. Great romantic start.
"Sex Girl"
This track opens with a bass beat and Joe's distinctive vocals, the song slows a little ...
Advantages: Two greats performing together, superb tracklisting Disadvantages: None!
Frank Sinatra and CountBasie?
Together on one disc?
Genius.
This is a thoroughly superb album. Sinatra is one of the greatest singers and performers, Basie one of the next jazz musicians and orchestrators. Together they combine to provide a musical production og genuine quality.
The 'live' aspect is, perhaps unsurprisingly, what brings this album truly alive. With the raw edge that is present without studio editing there is a real sense of being there whilst this music is being created - and that is the key. This music hasn't been rehearsed and played and cut and edited and re-edited until it is 'musical perfection'. The music lives because it is there as a genuine interaction between people. Sinatra is singing for this audience, Basie is playing for Sinatra, the audience responds and all three interact in a real experience ...

Album Notes
Personnel: Count Basie (piano, organ); Joe Williams (vocals); Buddy Bregman (arranger); Marshall Royal (alto saxophone, clarinet); Bill Graham (alto saxophone); Frank Foster (tenor saxophone); Charlie Fowlkes (baritone saxophone); Thad Jones, Reunald Jones, Wendell Culley (trumpet); Henry Coker, Bill Hughes, Ben Powell (trombone); Freddie Green (guitar); Eddie Jones (bass); Sonny Payne (drums). Includes liner notes by Michael Bourne. When it comes to accompanying a singer, there is probably no better jazz orchestra than the Count Basie Band. They swing so hard, that no matter who is singing with them, they seem to find a way to prop up even the best of jazz stylists. Such is the case with Joe Williams, a singer who should need no formal introduction to jazz fans. Williams' deep and rich tone is immediately recognizable and is, indeed, one of the great voices the idiom has produced. On THE GREATEST!!, Buddy Bregman's arrangements can often be angular and edgy. Other times, especially on the ballads, his arrangements are soft, mellow and lush. For example, on "My Baby Just Cares For Me," the brass shoots razor-sharp notes against a canvas of swingin' reeds. In contrast, on "Nevertheless," the music is serene and romantic, wistful and sentimental. Highlights on this album include the diverse and familiar "Singin' In the Rain," "A Fine Romance," and "I Can't Believe That You're In Love With Me."
Album Reviews
Down Beat (1/91) - 4 Stars - Very Good - "..a nice illustration of how influential people influence each other...a reminder that Basie was the hippest accompanist any modern singer could want."
