Advantages: Great style, well built, a relic on a budget.Excellent! Disadvantages: Avoid if you want a pristine, unsullied looking guitar....
is there in spades. Woo hoo! Although great for bluesy lead lines, this combo would also be useful for those funkier moments, as one of characteristics for pickups wired out of phase is that they do lose a little of the volume and sustain, as some parts of the signal from each pickup tend to cancel each other out when they are out of phase.
All in all a fantastic piece of very playable kit, and I'd recommend it to guitar players eveywhere, whether they be experienced amateurs or pros or even beginners. It has a real mojo about it and you don't even have to be a fan of Peter Green (but I am) or Gary Moore (which I'm not!) or even the blues to appreciate this great guitar. Frankly, at this price, there's nothing quite like it on the market and you'll love it whatever your musical taste. And let's be honest, you could gig this and any ...
Advantages: The same brilliant music as the fantastic debut; great vocals, melodies, background - all superb Disadvantages: Not inventive enough to please critics, but this doesn't harm the album.
When The Strokes came to record their second album, they must have felt quite some pressure. The superb debut had won glowing reviews across the board, and the task of matching it's quality, let alone exceeding it, was surely gargantuan. Not only that, but modern bands are expected to mature and develop their sound in very short periods of time. They couldn't merely improve on 'Is This It?' - they had to actually change the formula, and make a clear progression, if they wanted to achieve anything like the same acclaim.
When 'Room On Fire' was eventually released, critics didn't take to it in the same way as the band's debut. It didn't receive too many put-downs in terms of quality, because the second effort is actually just as good, and maybe even better than, their first. The reason it wasn't welcomed quite so warmly is that it was ...
Advantages: A lyrical and melodical masterpiece with hidden depth Disadvantages: Dark and seedy themes may not suit all tastes
depressing) content. However, the band skilfully lighten the mood whilst never betraying the impact of their song writing. Consistently good, with nothing you could describe as a truly duff track, if you buy one album from the band (other than ?Carry on Up the Charts? released in 1994 - their best compilation) I would argue that this is the one to go for. It is a varied, mature effort that rewards repeated listens. Recommended.
?And we only smoke when bored, so we do two packs a day, and we?ve lost the difference between bored and lonely anyway??
