Advantages: Overall fantastic vocals, good orchestration, strong songs Disadvantages: Arena sometimes fails to put her own stamp on these songs
the Springfield concept but there are still three Dusty songs on here.
The Look of Love
?Songs of Love and Loss? opens with the Bacharach/David standard ?The Look of Love?. This song is one probably most associated with Dusty Springfield but let?s be fair here ? it?s been covered to death by a myriad of artists ? I recall a particularly bad version by Deacon Blue in the eighties for instance.
Arena sings it well but adds little or nothing to the song ? the orchestration is smooth and I enjoyed listening to it but I often wonder what is the point in covering a song unless you can add something new to it? Arena fails to give it any new kind of twist, but it her polished vocals save it.
I Just Don?t Know What To Do With Myself
Upon hearing the opening bars of this song I feared a dreaded note-for-note cover version ? it sounded exactly like ...
Advantages: Slow laments, sensuous dances Disadvantages: None are possible
the incidental music to "Peer Gynt." Grieg responded to the moods and scenes of the drama with a string of characterful and memorable tone-pictures. The incidental music to Peer Gynt was written in 1875, and first performed, with the play, in February 1876. It comprised some 23 movements, written for a small theatre orchestra and chorus. Grieg extracted 8 of these in 1888 and 1891 after it had become evident that the play in its original form would not be frequently revived and re-orchestrated them for full orchestra in two Suites, In Grieg's own lifetime the "Peer Gynt" music scored a resounding international success.
It is comprised of two orchestral suites. (Not many people know that)

Advantages: Good rhythms to do the housework to, some excellent songs Disadvantages: Some songs will appeal to some and not to others.
Housework Songs is a double CD compilation album. The idea is that these songs are all suitable to listen to whilst doing the housework so easing the load and making the dutiful chores a little more enjoyable. On the front cover is a picture of a woman (rather sexist, men do the housework too! At least they do in my house!) singing into her vacuum cleaner. There are 41 songs on the album and there is a good mixture with something for everyone. We have songs from the 1960s including "Pretty Woman", and "Respect", in the 1970s we have "You Sexy Thing" and "American Pie", the 1980s gives us "Fame" and "I Think We're Alone Now", the 1990s gives us "Over My Shoulder"and "Moving on Up" then from the 2000s we have "Spinning Around" and "The Closest Thing To Crazy."
I love this album it has such a fantastic mix of songs, all of which I ...
