“Trap-A-Thon” was the 2007 album from Gucci Mane. The rapper is an Atlanta name known mostly for his underground work whilst teaming with other fairly well-known names such as Shawty Lo, OJ Da Juiceman and Soulja Boy in a manner which bring all the popular songs of the ‘Dirty South’ with a little Crunk, Snap and Gangsta Rap all thrown in together.

Starting it off you have a pretty fly one as you find that Zaytoven takes over after Gucci’s Lil’ Jon tribute and chooses to twist things towards somewhere which people know him especially well for with rhymes about the ice which he tends to wear at all times. It is a decent opener and indicates where things could go form this point.

3. “Re-Up”
With him constantly in and out prison, he is one of few you can actually believe when it comes to things such as this one as here he decides to turn his attention to flows about how he is always there at re-up time when the local drug supplies are replenished to meet
the needs of those intending to purchase a little something. It is blunt and he does it in away to make it sound effective.
This was a key single from the rapper and one which, to a degree, led to some overground airplay as he moved on towards the light club rap. It is a gentle little tune and one which really stands out here, in spite of the fact that the rhymes he come up with of just about the worst standard you will ever find in a Rap album.

6. “What They Do”
You get a further lift with this one as you see that with this one you find him doing something which reminded me of Ciara’s “Goodies” in terms of the way much of the production is doe with its Bambaataa-esque electronic sound effects and an overall mainstream sound, but I felt that this really hurt him as his style doesn’t suit this cleaner style.

7. “Aw-Man”
You have a bouncy cut from him as he moves towards the lively raps where he just gets loose with it an has fun along the way with rhymes which have him describing just how every he has compares to that of others out there. It is a nice one, and keeps things flowing in the album to make sure you stick with him.

8. “Good News & Bad News” (Lude)
9. “Choppa Shoppin’”
With some dark Crunk beats backing him up, you see that for this one he turns his attention for the gun raps in a way which he has seen to at other times. The grungy beats which he gets from his in-house producers are just what is needed to hold things together and bring out some potential in it all.

10. “Bad Guys”
You find that here Gucci admits that really when it comes to sides, he would always pick the ones against those who are out for good and talks of just why this is. He beats are heavy and help him out, as without this it would uncover just how pointless his rhymes are for this one (and just about every other here).

11. “Pillz”
With Zaytoven on the beats here you have things getting to a much higher standard than what you tend to get in much of the material here as he has been able to work with some of the best underground acts representing the south over the years he’s been active and it has given him the experience to deliver here just as he had with the likes of Project Pat, Pastor Troy and Young Jeezy.

12. “Spanish Plug”
Here you have a very different one form him as he tries out some new influences with one which has him using his gibberish flows effectively for once as he attempts to speaks to Spanish girls in a Spanglish style and it actually fits in here for once, but it doesn’t mean that it is a good one at all.

13. “Product”
Low’s production is amongst the best you get from this one as you find that he comes with some heavy beats which take things to a place which you don’t really get much of here at all and it brings out something which was absent in it to improve the way that everything else was done. The structure seems much more solid, and the featured guests make sure that Gucci doesn’t spoil this.

14. “Bosses Speak” (Outro)
Although I have to say tha I enjoyed it as times as he jumps on some fly beats and kept things together at times, I couldn’t get over the wack rhymes such as “Shoes by Prada, shirt: Ralph Lauren,/Pull up to the curb in somethin’ foreign,/ tangerine Porsche same color orange,/i stay real high like my car insurance”. The amount of times he compares things to colours is unreal and it shows just how weak a rhymer he is. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone other than who feels this Shawty Lo/OJ Da Juiceman kind of rap, as others will just laugh at how poor it all is.
