...This has to be one of my most played albums since I bought it 2 months ago. I listen to Chill FM on the internet and they had been playing this funky Cuban version of Coldplays Clocks a couple of times. I searched and searched to find out who had done it and after a week or so came up with this - Rhythms Del Mundo by the Buena Vista Social Club. "I knew it was them" I said to myself! Anyway, I bought it straight away just on the strength of that one track and was very pleased by all the other tracks on the Album. Not only have the Buena Vista Social Club given the Cuban treatment to Coldplay, but also to tracks by Sting, Arctic Monkeys, Jack Johnson, Maroon 5 and Kaiser Chiefs. ...on this review!). The chicking is one of the quality moments of the album. * Page Three * Scat gone very, very wrong is this track. Metal guitars with Patton “Sichorchy scagging” over the top followed by spooky whistle noises. Then it’s a burst of guitar noise, a brief whistle, some more noise. Some screaming (A scary thought just occurred to me, I have a lecturer at Uni who makes similar noises when excited!) and then a thundering bass drum roll complete with screaming and we’re done. One of the more foot tapping moments of the album. * Page Four * Page Four just tends to drag on, mainly being ambient noises and samples. There’s some guitar and “wooo”’s from Patton but it doesn’t save the page I’m afraid and at over three minutes it’s FAR to long for a Fantômas page... Read review
