Second album Red has been out for little over a couple of months preceded by the fantastically received single 'Get Over It'. Where the first album was dark in places, the new album brings new sounds and a new meaning to the genre of 'pop'. Here is my track by track review: -

Kriss Kross - Belting opener, even if a little strange. Some sort of middle eastern influences start off a song that soon includes a soaring bass line. Its 40 ... ...the press.
I think Red is a really good album. It sounds like a musical journey rather than being an album where you find yourself itching for the 'skip' button; ironically a way i felt towards the first album. There is much to love here; great music, weird sounds, stunning vocals, thought out lyrics, bizarre lyrics etc. A further note to close the review, you may have caught the band on tv shows like Jonathan Ross recently, their live sound is ...

Advantages: Some decent lyrics, good music, some feel good tracks Disadvantages: Can become tiresome, repetitive and altogether boring
I bought the Guillemots album after some very positive reviews from a my dad. He was impressed and so I went out and got myself a copy. I'd already heard a bit of their stuff, and had in my head an image of some sort of weird, mixed up band doing their part for the music scene. The album opens with "Kriss Kross", and in my opinion a perfect choice as an opening song. ... ...certainly left with a feeling that you know what you'll be getting when the album continues. Oh how wrong you'd be. But anyway, Kriss Kross. It's essentially quite an easy listening track, and very much a song that would make a snug little home on the radio. Not that that means it's any less a song, on the contrary, it's a really great tune, and I can imagine now the hundreds of people setting it as their ringtones.
The next track, "Big Dog", has ...

Album Notes: Led by songwriter Fyfe Dangerfield, the melodic indie misfits Guillemots second LP 'Red' retains their buoyant optimism and instrumental prowess, but introduces a new-found confidence. Lead single 'Get Over It' is a prime example of this, as are several other more exuberant tracks on this release. Recorded mostly in an East London synagogue and co-produced (alongside the band) by U2 collaborator Adam Noble, 'Red' is an album of pure, attention-grabbing pop songs that marks a directional departure for its authors.
