Guilty - Barbra Streisand

still had some songs to spare. However, perhaps fearing that the famous falsetto was already proving a little too ubiquitous, the hirsute Bee Gee hooked up with Barbra Streisand. Predictably, Guilty instantly became the singer's biggest selling album. With the Donna Summer duet "Enough Is Enough" still fresh in the folk memory, many expected Gibb's involvement to result in a full-on disco extravaganza. Gibb though, had already left the dance floor behind and, if anything, Guilty is best seen as a companion piece to the Bee Gees' beautifully introspective Spirits Having Flown album. "Guilty" and "Make It Like A Memory" are particular standouts, object lessons in pristine FM pop, whilst the Grammy-gobbling "Woman In Love" singlehandedly explains why Streisand insisted on posing in Gibb's embrace for the sleeve image. --Peter Paphides

I am not impressed by all of the songs, because BarbraStreisand caters for all kinds of tastes, although the CD itself has most of my favourites. For example, when she sings Woman in Love, this is real love, this is where the emotions are raw and intarnished, and her voice is at its best. Guilty with Robin Gibb is one of her classics and a really worthy song. It’s one of the songs I listen to when I am on my own and maybe in a self indulgent mood. Her singing kind of sweeps over you, gets to your heart and soul, and I tend to turn it up and let it take me places that nostalgia is all about. Her...

Advantages: The original tracks are great, Fergie's performance is good Disadvantages: Tracks with Akon, Kanye West and Will.I.Am are a letdown
...Repacked for the third time, "Thriller" by Michael Jackson is quite simply one of the best pop albums of all time. It is an album that inspired a generation of recording artists and its songs all stand up to the level of music being produced today.
This 25thAnniversaryedition has been received by some as something of a let down. It's fair to say the remix of Bliie Jean by Kanye West and the version of Wanna Be Startin' Something with Akon have really added nothing to the album.
However, Fergie gives a good account of herself in "Beat It 2008" and how can you give this album anything other than 5 stars when it has the original "Thriller" album in its entirety, WITH bonus tracks.
Also included is a DVD which features the Motown 25thAnniversary TV special 'Billie Jean' performance and the classic video for Thriller, as well...

Advantages: The voice, the songs, the ecstasy Disadvantages: The lack of respect
...Carpenter was blessed and then cursed with a purity of sound that has never been matched. And then we come to La Streisand.
Let’s backtrack a little here. I only have a couple of MP3s of Sarah McLachlan tracks and I have never owned anything at all by The Carpenters. I think their voices are divine, but the material has never matched up. I love BarbraStreisand as an actress having been introduced to What’s Up Doc by my father at a young age, but I was never taken with her as a performer. Same story as before – perfect voice, perfectly ordinary songs.
But Guilty is different. Guilty is serendipitous. Guilty is the most exquisite cocktail. Guilty is when you mix two things that you know aren’t good for you and the sum is greater than all the other parts in the world. Guilty is where Streisand sings Gibb. In my last review comments were left...
