Recorded at Kuff Studios, Jamaica; Dep International Studios, Birmingham, England. Recording primarily at Jamaica's Kuff Studios, UB40 used the surrounding island as a muse in lending their friendly pop/reggae sound a grittier edge. A heavy dub vibe permeates "Always There" while "Hurry Come Up" uses a rapid, lo-fi rhythm track to lend a dance-hall flavor. A small Jamaican town that's remained unchanged for 200 years inspired "Oracabessa Moonshine" while the title track came about after listening to the anti-gun campaign of an Ochos Rios radio station. Although UB40 strays into more eclectic territory this time around, GUNS IN THE GHETTO also reflects the band's crossover sensibilities. This comes across particularly on the lush ragga-ballad "Lisa" and the retro, Lisa Stansfield-sounding "I Really Can't Say."
Advantages: must for your collection Disadvantages: listening to "Red Red Wine"
...I have followed UB40 since i first heard the single "Food for Thought" and i been a fan ever since.
The best of UB40 is a brilliant Album and i think their best one.
It has some great tracks on it especially all the early stuff, which in my opinion is when they were at there best..
It has singles on it like "King",....."1 in 10"....."Food for Thought",...
..."Rat in my kitchen"......"..."Dont Break my Heart" and "Red Red Wine" which is the only UB40 record i really dont like, i think they sold out a bit when they made that record.
But saying that the lads from Brum are a top class act and if you are fan you got to have this Album in your collection.
UB40 has a percussion section which is rare nowdays and the Cambell brothers have a very distictive vocals....

Advantages: Free service to job seekers and employers Disadvantages: Just because it's free doesn't mean it's any good!
...it was a possibility so had gone out and looked for jobs to pre-empt the redundancy so I had another job to walk straight into. This time I was in shock and had to go to the job centre (now called Job Centre Plus) to sign on and get help with my mortgage. The first time I went in I thought how different it looked to how I remembered it all those years ago (well for starters it was in Ealing where I went to sign as opposed to Chiswick). The staff were now called Personal Advisors! And as a job seeker I was now called a client. The form you took along with you every week as ID was now called a JSAG (job seekers agreement) as opposed to a UB40 (unemployment benefit form 40). It was felt that calling it unemployment as opposed to job seeking was rather negative hence it was changed.
I had to sit in a queue to pick up some forms to claim...

Advantages: An excellent listen Disadvantages: None
...I am totally obsessed with UB40 and own nearly all of there albums, this being one of them, if you like reggae and rap this is definately for you. It has a mixture of all their original songs, like red wine and chrieo baby, all the songs are excellent some of them are of UB40 tunes with UB40 rapping over them, I know it sounds tacky but the way it is done is so good, you really need to listen to it, although if you do not own it you may have a job trying to get old of it as I do not think they are sold anymore. Again I can't rave enough about this tape I have even just put it on to listen to. Brings back some memories. One of the best is the song If it happens again with rapping over it....
