He seems just as comfortable with Hindi pop or devotional/classical Indian forms as London's jungle or downtempo styles a la Kruder and Dorfmeister. All of the new tracks contained withinHaare vocal numbers and part of the appeal must be the lure/mystery of the exotic--unless you are an expert it is impossible to tell if you are listening to Bombay pop, traditional desert song or Holy Hinduisms. The Western studio work is scrupulous and detailed: ambient textures, new tricks/techniques and his trademark drum'n'tabla version of drum'n'bass. And while you might expect hip meditation music (and he does do this at times) Talvin's rhythms and b-lines are often cranked-up, urban and propulsive. There's also a wry humour in excitable MCs dedicating tracks to the 'Bhangra boogie girls'. Not vastly different from his Mercury Prize winning 1999 debutOKthis new LP suggests Singh is going deeper into his aesthetic--or getting better at what he does best. -Tony Marcus

Talvin Singh is known as the main spokesperson for “Asian cool”, he is a classically trained tabla player who has worked with artists such as Björk and Massive attack and won the Mercury music prize and critical aclaim for his debut album Ok.
This album starts with the mood-setting One, and then moves on to Mustard Fields, which is rightly declared beforehand as anthemic. The Beat Goes On and Dubla are probably the danciest tracks on the album. The Beat Goes On would fit in a Dj’s house set (well it does in mine anyway) and Dubla with its deep bass-lines and squelchy synth intensity is enough to make anyone dance, or at least sway a bit. My personal favourite is the slow, reflective final track Silver Flowers.

This album should do really well, the tracks it contains are superb, original and very well performed and produced. This is the kind of album that should be number one in the charts rather than the reformed pop produced by Hear’say and the like.
BEST TUNE: Silver Flowers WORST TUNE: All v. good, but one I like the least is probably Uphold PRODUCTION: Excellent IF LIKE THIS TRY:Massive Attack, Kruder and Dorfmeister compilations
HA is the sophomore full-length by Talvin Singh, an achievement that makes good on the buzz from his collaborations with the likes of Madonna and his winning the Mercury Music Prize. "One," "Dubla," and "Bobby Style" are among the tracks.
