The joy luckclub is a multitude of little stories about the hardship a group of friends have suffered.It centers around a woman had to abandon her twin daughters to survive when she was very young,after she dies her best friends track down her daughters who survied and arrange for there half sister togo and meet them,as they all prepare for the occasion they reminis about there own lives and there daughters and tell there own stories.
As the film began i had big reservations about it but as soon as it got going i was hooked.Each of the stories where totally engrossing and compelling to watch.The acting from the whole cast was really good and you got the sense this was reallly a quality film.
Similar to geisha this film is moving and heart warming and covers many aspects,it truly is to be recommended ,i can see that it will apeal more ...

The Joy LuckClub sweeps you into a world reolving around mothers and daughters and how complex their relationship is. It is a wonderful story that has you enthralled from the moment you start to read and it is a wonderful insight to how other cultures work. It takes you from modern day America into the old rule of China and back again. It shows how times have changed and how we take our lives for granted as well as how we do not appreciate the sacrifices other have had to make. A great piece of cinema which explores the lives and relationships between mothers and daughters in a Chinese American family through time. The film starts with a story of how the first member of the family came to America to find a new life for herself , one better than the one she left behind. The film then charts the development of her family through the decades, with all the sisters and their stories of how they came to be in America and the experiences they had with their husbands and children. Stars Tsai Chin, Kieu Chinh and Andrew McCarthy makes an appearance as one of the less bad husbands.
At times its quite harsh and for sure this family has had some bad luck, despite the title, but it is very moving and perhaps gives us blokes an insight into the types of relationships that mothers and daughters have. In a way its a montage ...
