I am slowly working my way through the books that I buy but never read, I had picked this one up a few times and started to read it but seemed to lose interest after a few pages. But after being unwell and home from work a few days ago I decided to make a good effort at actually finishing it in peace and quiet as the kids were at school.
This is the 4th book by Cecelia Ahern who currently lives in Dublin. Her father is none other than Bertie Ahern the Irish prime minister and her sister is married to Nicky Byrne of West life. Her first book P.S I love you reached no1 in 4 countries and stayed there for 19 weeks.
The story centers on Sandy Shortt who ironically is anything but she is 6ft 1 and has heard every joke or comment that goes with this. She was born and brought up in County Leitrim, which is a small town in Ireland ...
Advantages: Great family fun , good musical score , nice fantasy , great casy Disadvantages: May be scarey to really young ones

The plot though simple seems to have a childs imagination thrown in . The stuff of dreams or nightmares .The journey the film , and the characters , follow is one of searching for what they need , and finding they had the necessary all along . And of course the discovery that there really is NoPlaceLikeHome .

This is ideal for kids in the early school years. It is simple, fun and educational. I bought it for my four and a half year old for Christmas as I wanted something that would introduce a new subject in a simple and fun way. He loves it and we ended up reading it every night for about two weeks. And yes he did as the book says at the beginning learn the names of every planet and also encouraged further interest in the universe and everything related. As well as the planets the book introduces some basic constellations, the sun, the moon and the idea of a telescope. The glossary at the end is also a bit basic but enough for young ones.
There's NoPlaceLike Space was published in 1999 therefore Pluto is included and introduced as one of the nine planets. So for the more serious astronomers this might not be a preferred choice. But ...
