Hard Time Blues - Scrapper Blackwell

Advantages: Great spread of sounds, amazing throughout
Disadvantages: Erm... it ends?

...I won't pretend to know a lot about the mechanics of music. Having played many instruments albeit for short amounts of time and being an aspiring lead guitarist (if I would only practice on the damn thing) I do know about chord progression, drop tuning, scale patterns and that kind of thing, but no more. What I do know about is music in general, what's good and what's not, how it makes you feel, lyrical skill and those kind of things. Or, to put it another way, the listening side of music. What I also know is that Time Travelling Blues is an astonishing album. Orange Goblin have followed on from their debut album "Frequencies From Planet Ten" by pushing the key elements of their music even further. You still get the bluesy tunes ripped apart by chrushing chord patterns, but more than that there are tracks which are one or the other... Read review

Advantages: Some good hit singles
Disadvantages: Mixed album tracks

.... It's a Neil Young song. If the first song seems depressing, then the title track is even more so. "Blue" is about yearning for love and it starts off "I'm blue, blue like a Monday morning". Track 3 is the mid-tempo "Say You Love Me". This is my favourite song on this album. It reached the Top 10 and many felt it was a low-key start for the newly written material but in truth, it's probably one of the more up-lifting tracks on "Blue". The introduction feels very summery while the lyrics are quite sad. It's about apathy and being lonely. Perhaps Mick was sick of his job. Who knows but the words " What do I think of it? Oh it's so so" suggest he was seriously fed up. I think this song can be something to the listener as well. When it was getting lots of airplay, a man I liked at the time was leaving and this really summed it up... Read review

Advantages: Great music all on one CD.
Disadvantages: You might not like boy band music.

...know what I mean ;)), but they aren’t sure and can’t resist ‘this temptation’. A real catchy tune and I find myself singing along to this every time I listen, there is also some rapping from Simon which I think is fantastic, my rating is *****/5. Here is the chorus (why am I repeating myself, oh never mind)… “You wanna get it on right now I see I just wanna say that's cool with me Won't you take your time Leave it just a little to imagination I've been waiting for this night so long It's really hard just holding on And now the moment's come I've never been good at this temptation.”  4.
