Minutes To Midnight- A Truly Awesome CD
Review of Minutes To Midnight (Special Edition/Parental Advisory/+MVI) [PA] - Linkin Park by hunni.bubble

Advantages: It has amazing lyrics that are well worth listening to
Disadvantages: n/a

...they have matured and grown out of the some what childish stage they were in before. Their transgression has been well worth it and I sincerely hope that they will release more albums like this in the future. So the moral of this story is...buy Minutes To Midnight! ... Read review

Songs from the sparkle lounge
Review of Songs From The Sparkle Lounge (Deluxe Edition/+DVD) [Digipak] - Def Leppard by thinleppard

Advantages: fresh, classic
Disadvantages: joe isnt seen on the dvd

...is the actual cd of Songs from the Sparkle Lounge and every track offers a different style of pure class! Whether you like soft rock ballads such as Love, hard rock heaven like Go or the mellow classic Photograph style of Hallucinate, this album has something for everyone. Just as you think it reaches a peak around Only the good die young, it tops itself with a fantastic metal sound from Bad Actress, adding to the fact that there really is no band ... Read review

Magnifique!
Review of Magnificent Seventh, The - Thunder by Soho_Black

Advantages: In parts, this is Thunder at their best
Disadvantages: Misses the trademark humour

...I'm not too displeased to have paid full price for the album. If the ending of this one and the evolution of the sound from "Giving the Game Away" to "Shooting at the Sun" to "The Magnificent Seventh" is to continue, then the next album is going to be immense! ... Read review

It's Judas Priest with a twist
Review of Nostradamus - Judas Priest by BigCS

Advantages: It's different to anything else released by the band, therefore deserves a listen
Disadvantages: maybe alienate a few fans

This is a very difficult album to review for me... the Priest were one of the first metal bands I became a fan of back in my teen days in 1978, so I've been with them every step of the way for the last 30 years now. Over that time they've released several classic albums... Stained Class, Killing Machine, British Steel, Screaming For Vengeance, Painkiller, and even the last album 'Angel Of Retribution'. They've also stuck out a couple of average albums... ...
...new one... heck, this one had me stumped from the day they announced the concept (what were they thinking of?), until I actually bought it and gave it a few listens. Based loosely on the life and prophecies of Nostradamus, it's a double CD. A lot of it sounds like your typical Judas Priest material, but a lot of it is far from it. There are many pieces of music that 'link' the main songs, and these contain things you would not normally associate ... Read review

Strapping Young Lad - City! Overrated?
Review of City - Strapping Young Lad by dangaroo

Advantages: Different
Disadvantages: Too much going on

This is a review of City, the 2nd album of Strapping Young Lad the Canadian Progressive/Extreme metal band. This album is often critically acclaimed as the best work of Strapping Young Lad, to add to that Devin Townsend is often cited as a genius. Made in 1997, the album should appeal to me but doesn't impress me anyway near as much as it should do, I've tried to get into it several times and the mixture of different styles messes it up a bit for ...
...vocals, some songs on the album like Detox are pretty good but others like Oh My F***ing God just sound like progressive industrial metal with a muffled sound that represents a result similar to a heavier version of what Mike Patton is up to these days (if you've seen it), which is basically just making a racket! Maybe it's my simple mind but I prefer something more raw than an experimental, over the top concoction of styles. This album does have ... Read review
