'Bow Down' to the 'Four Horsemen'
Advantages: Metallica are back, fantastic partly-thrashing progressive riff based metal music with a contemporary touch Disadvantages: Awful mixing has destroyed dynamics adding severe digital distortion with too much compression used
...song in the context of Death Magnetic, but it sits in the lower tier of this CD. So when this album hit, people really weren't expecting the shocker of an album I have here in my hands (Shocking in both very good and bad ways)!
So that brings me onto my humongous review of the album after my brief history lesson, first I will talk a bit about the sound of the album and sum it up with one word. Yes, you got that right, ONE WORD!
'Death Magnetic' ... ...the albums main topic is Death and Suicide, hence the dirty dark production and evil sound we have on this CD.
The chorus that blows 'Enter Sandman' off the face of the earth astonishingly catches you out at 2 minutes and 24 seconds "Hunt you down without mercy, hunt you down all nightmare long. Feel us breathe upon your face. Feel us shift, every move we trace…." This is unbelievable, probably their best chorus from at least the last 15 years, ...

Monster in my parasol!
Advantages: Not just your average rock CD. Disadvantages: Last song drags on for 8 mins 40secs.
If you need an album to clear the demons from your troubled mind then this is the album for you. When I first listened to this album I could not believe the stunning originality of all the tracks. You won't find another band that sounds anything remotely like The Queens of the Stone Age. From start to finish this is a gem of an album exceeding their previous works tenfold. Some memorable moments include the hypnotic and dizzy 'Better living through ... ...summer'. For the most part ‘The Queens of the Stone Age’ remind me of Nirvana crossed with a little bit of the eccentricity of Led Zeppelin. Some really heavy rocking tracks are mixed with more mellow and subtle songs which means that this is an album you con leave on in the background and allow it to drift into your conscious.
In a nutshell this is an album that should grace everyone‘s CD collection. I cannot recommend this album highly enough ...

Helluva title
Advantages: Still rocks Disadvantages: May sound dated to some
..."Helluva Band" (and isn't that helluva title?) continued in the same vein as their debut, with "Feelin' Right", "The Fortune" (8 minutes of psychedelia!), "Pressure Point" and "Chicken Soup" all excellent rockers. The theme song returns at the end again, as it does on the first album, with a minute added. The CD booklet also contains a photo of the band - haargh! Well, it was a quarter of a century ago. ...

Rage Against The Machine Album Review
Advantages: Hard, unconventional rock Disadvantages: An acquired taste
Rap-Metal group Rage Against the Machine released their self-titled debut album in 1992, but the music is just as relevant today as it was back then. Songs like 'Take the Power Back' and 'Freedom' are about individual exploitation by the cultural, social, and political systems in society, and how the people must be willing to rise up and overcome such oppression. You may have also recently heard about the small matter of 'Killing in the Name' beating ... ...when you first listen to Rage is that they mean business. The whole album is intended to provide voice to the silent minority: Those individuals that feel neglected and abused are given hope through the band's resonant, unashamed, confrontational expression. Guitarist Tom Morello's anomalous riffs, rhythmic special effects and extended tapping techniques were some of the most powerful sounds to come from a guitar in that era, and remain unchallenged ...
