Morbid Angel - Domination, of death metal.
Advantages: One of the best Morbid Angel albums to date Disadvantages: If your into death metal, there are none.
What can I say about this album. Well, to start this is from the era when Morbid Angel were one of the gods of death metal and pretty much lead the entire genre with each release. This album is from that era and as such, is a pretty much required ownership. The music production is distinct of that time in music, so plenty of space for the music to fully come out with no over the top compression. All the musicians are on top form, each part sounds ... ...point out some stand out tracks, but they are all pretty much awesome, but if I had to pick it would be Where the Slime Live, which is a pounding almost groove affair that has the guitars practically hitting nothing but “the prefect set of notes”. One thing I would say is if your not used to music from that time in music, you may notice the album is in fact a little quieter than todays albums. Its not a problem at all, just a by product of the techniques ...

Death Becomes You
Advantages: Brutal death metal, well presented and crisp production Disadvantages: Lacking a tad of originality that would of made this relase a classic
Released by: EARACHE, April 2008 Genre: Death Metal This is Deicide's ninth studio album, which follow-ups 'The Stench of Redemption' album that was released in 2006. Album Cover Design: All fans of Deicide will know that when it comes to album artwork they try their best to shock! This one is no different which features a painting by Hans Baldung titled 'Woman and Death'. The illustration is of a half naked woman being bitten by Death in all his ... ...My first opinion of the album was - when Glen Benton and Steve Asheim get together they get together for one purpose and one purpose only - to produce extreme Death Metal. I was expecting to hear the trademark Deicide sound and that's what I got. 'Till Death Do Us Part' on the first listen was simply oustanding. My overall opinion of the album - the more you listen to it the more you like it. A flawless display of aggression from Benton supported ...

Cold, Clinical Polish Death Metal
Advantages: Technical, Atmospheric, full of catchy riffs, brilliantly executed Disadvantages: None
Released in 2004, 'The Negation' is an excellent slab of technical, groove-laden death metal with a cold and mechanical-sounding edge to it. This was the last album to feature Sauron on vocals, and is regarded by many as the band's proudest moment. The songs are a mix of cold, and at times almost doomy guitar lines and incredibly tight high-speed riffing backed up by fast, clinical, blastbeat-heavy percussion courtesy of the now sadly departed drummer ... ...in a slow and calculated manner over the chaotic mailstrom of riffs and drums in a way that suits the music perfectly. The songs are full of tight, chugging riffs that are worked with almost surgical precision into the various deep, slow grooves that each track hammers home repeatedly, and this is contrasted with insanley melodic guitar solos at various intervals. The whole thing is reminiscient of a tighter, faster version of early Deicide in places, ...

Cannibale Corpse - Kill, pretty much everything
Advantages: Pure brutal death metal that never stops the madness Disadvantages: It doesnt last forever
...opening track “The Time To Kill Is Now” starts as it means to go on, fantastic. “Make Them Suffer” being the next track pretty much takes the crown for me, its the best track, although not by much as most of the tracks are all out perfect. The last track “Infinite Misery” is a instrumental track which I was rather weary of as the band doesn't seem the type to be able to pull it off very well. How wrong I was. Showcasing there rather mouth opening ...

To Holmgard And Beyond - The Epic Journey
Advantages: Great lyrics, fantastic story, good music. Disadvantages: None
...latest album from Turisas, The Varangian Way, I was blown away.
Initial Thoughts
I had read the review in Metal Hammer, and thought it sounded good - I'd already had experience of their previous work and thought this would be for me. I went out and bought it, and slipped the disc into my player. The opening bars of 'To Holmgard And Beyond' crashed out through the speakers, instantly stimulating. First listen through I thought of it as a ... ...continued listening to it with regularity.
A Breakthrough
However, the real joy for me came when I listened hard to the lyrics, and imagined I was in the middle of the story, rowing along with 'Hakon' and dancing 'In The Court Of Jarisleif'. Another excellent point of this album is the amount of detail the lyrics delve into, regarding the story of the historical pilgrimage told here.
This, for me is what a concept album should be like. ...
